No I'm talking algae production, no need for arable land, biomass production rate exceeds that of any terrestrial plant ;)
That is a possibility, but as Barnowl says, early days yet and a bit soon to predict viability. It's the sheer scale of need for liquid fuels that's so daunting.

Whether or not we are reaching "peak oil" on today's consumption levels it will surely be pretty difficult to accommodate the aspirations of China and India to achieve the level of car ownership we enjoy in the West. Fortunately, their cars will be much smaller and more efficient. Unfortunately, there will be an order of magnitude more of them.
