And, you're right, I'm not rolling along:eek: The braking area on my original 2008 Lorq rear rim has worn through causing the rim to split and splay out. Although the tyre remained inflated enough to push the bike for a while, both it & I had to complete the journey fully deflated :(. Although this was quite unexpected at the time, having further researched this issue, I have concluded that this is not so uncommon. My wheel builder when inspecting the damage also pointed out that some spokes were loose and were likely to have broken prematurely.

Just a word of warning then to those who have not yet had such an experience!

As you've found, it is completely normal, alloy rims on a rim braked bike have a limited life, especially in an area or circumstances where considerable braking is necessary.
