@Muckymitts. Yes I realised that, so I asked him to send me measurements. But if you have the real thing I am sure that would be better. It is great if we can help each other.
I am not sure whats in the box, but as the garage is a complete midden at the moment I wont reach that bit till late afternoon, tigers, wilder-beast and yeti permitting.
No, it's just an image I found on the net that looks like the springs most of my bikes have had, and what was described previously. I would have thought a V Brake was a V brake, regardless of whether it's an electric bike or normal bike. Just standard cycle components. Here's some to look through on Google Images:
V Brake Return Spring Search
Not much luck at bike shop, chap said they didn't have anything like that, and that I should contact bike manufacturer ?? which seems a bit over the top, a guy at work suggested changing the complete rear brake, which I suppose is one option, you wouldn't think getting a spring would prove so difficult would you ?:
Have now dismantled rear brake assembly, and am convinced that mystery article is part of said brakes, some sort of spring, there is a groove in the rear of the right hand side calliper, [the one that doesn't work], and I now think that this was the spring for it, and has broken, left hand side has conventional coil spring, most unusual, anyone come across this set up before ??.....Del.
On closer inspection, the right hand side one [the one not working] has Winzip stamped on it, the left one says Apse, googling produces two different makers of v brakes, what on earth is going on here ??...........Del.
I would guess that someone has bodged it in the past using mixed parts . Either obtain a new brake , or a coil spring . Or ask Muckymitts if he has a complete rear brake on offer from his junk box.
I've never come across that mix before Del, but it should work ok if the side that takes the straight spring has an adjuster screw to tension it. One of two things has happened here. Either an owner has put two parts together to make up that brake, or more likely, parts shortages (not uncommon) has resulted in the Chinese factory doing it. That Powacycle is a budget machine so components are often down to a price.
