No personal experience of this particular variant on the motors used by Currie, but what they say makes sense. They've regularly suffered from overheating in the past and bypassing the internal control system to keep down heat generation will be helpful.

If it will run on 48 volts as claimed, it should be able to maintain 36 volt running and will be very powerful at that, since they are usually used as 24 volt units and perform quite well on that lower voltage.
