I am running a newly purchased unit with a geared no name (well they're all no name) motor where I know nothing about its gearing or the number of magnets.Hence P1 setting is guesswork. What I've noticed is that the speed is accurate when coasting. Under acceleration, the display jumps between 1x-2x the actual speed. It seems to happen at lower speeds and is more violent with P1 set to 50, but still acts up with P1 at 210.

I'm using an external speed sensor, as this motor doesn't have one.

Any ideas? Never saw this happen with the square wave torque simulation models.

Try setting P3 #1 for current control & P2 # 1.
You can only try and guess P1 but start with 16 magnets and gearing of 5:1 giving 80 for P1 equally you could try and fine tune with any figure between 80 - 90.
Barring that you will have to experiment with many numbers to see if any work at all.
Try figures with ratio's of 9:1, 12:1 &13:1 and then after that try again but with 8 magnets.

It may be getting the speed signal from a sensor inside the motor as well as the speed pulse signal, see if there is a thin white wire connected in the square connector block on the motor cable.

I think the motor has relatively high gearing. I will work down from 255,

A few generic copies of Bafang hubs use 5:1 gearing ratio, Mxus is one. My Yosepower hub also uses 5:1.

Aikema/ Q100/128 have higher various ratio's depending on model and rpm.
