Finding my (electric) wheels

Hey all,
Went for my first long road ride today, through London. Because of the many red lights, I had to stop and start often...

While I'm waiting at the red light, I always position my foot on one pedal, to be ready to move off as soon as I can.

My question is: will this put unneccessary work on my motor? As I am putting my hands on the brake- and simultaneously putting pressure on the pedal, I feel perhaps that I could be wrecking the motor...

Any opinions?

Which bike/system are you using ?

It's ok if you just rest your foot on ready to go, you leg weight won't do anything, but you shouldn't press down since the torque sensor will attempt to energise the motor and it will fight the brake.

You can check if you are pressing too hard by just letting off the brake. If the bike shoots forward, you are pressing too hard.
