Finding my (electric) wheels

Just testing the water here.

Has anyone fitted an e-bike kit to a racer/road bike?

I much prefer the riding position and drop down handlebars. I don't mind if the bike has a MTB front wheel with hub motor (looks don't really matter).

Thanks in advance

Not done it but the kit I have just fitted to my mountain bike would have fitted to a racer very easily. I put the electronics in a small seatpost bag and the battery goes in a rack that can still be used to carry stuff. The motor is a front hub motor and is on quite a skinny front rim. I went for the Sunlova kit. I think they can supply the kit in a 700c wheel. The communication via e-mail with them has been excellent on queries I had.

As a kit the Cytronex setup will probably work well if you can get hold of it. The motor is allegedly a bit fragile but you're not going to be riding a road bike over rough ground.

No reason not to, this French Cybien bike is a good example of a good sport bike with hill-assist. At 15 mph the motors automatically disengage leaving the bike completely free running as normal:

Hi the Sunlova did not come to me with a thumb throttle but they are very helpful - I am sure they will supply one if they can. Anna Wei is who I have dealt with and her service and communication has been excellent.

I've just ordered a 700C wheel kit from BMS battery which I intend to fit to one of my road racers, I'll post here as to how I get on when it arrives. The Cytronex bikes look fabulous but are pretty overpriced - apart from their cunning waterbottle battery the rest is just standard easily obtainable kit.

Try getting the motor ;) or near the all all up weight of the bike...

CJB - not sure if it has been mentioned previously but be aware that your drop handlebars will probably be "fatter" than normal bars , so should you be using one of the fat black plastic polo mint type throttles that I got from Alien then chances are it won't fit on - mine didn't !

I had some great help from forum members on this thread

Cheers Rab

My 700C kit from Sunlova came with a thumb throttle as a special request, not sure how the location would work on the bars though.
Communication was easy as previously stated.
