Retro fit throttle control

Hi

I am a new member, about to buy my first electric bike

I am considering a Raleigh Velo Trail, I believe these bikes have Torque control only

Can you guys tell me if it's possible to retro fit throttle control and keep torque control on these bikes

I am old and could use a throttle to get away and walk the bike up steep and rough forest tracks

Sorry you've had no reply,Wyko! I've often wondered the same thing. Since no-one has answered perhaps it's not too easy.If like me you prefer a throttle it may be best to buy one of the many bikes that have one.I have a Tonaro which I love and a good old Powabyke. Ezee bikes have a good reputation too.Best wishes, and a Happy Christmas to all.

Hi and welcome. It is unlikely that you can retrofit a throttle to that particular bike.

Why would you want to spend a load of money on an electric bike that doesn't meet your quite reasonable requirements? Search through the websites advertising on here. You will find several bikes that both suit your needs and budget.

I preferred Raleigh because I'm from Nottingham. The spiritual home of Raleigh
Raleigh still have their Factory Shop close to where I live, and its possible to get a discount on some models, at some times
I forgotten how many Raleigh bikes I've owned in the past, so I thought I'd carry on with the brand for an electric model, but they just don't fit my requirements
I would appreciate any more suggestions, close to the 'Velo Trail' spec. with a throttle control. There are so many models out there and hardly any about around here to take out and try

Don't worry too much about 'betraying' the Raliegh brand - they haven't been made in Engalnd for several years now. You are now spoilt for choice as to which bike to choose.
Have a look at Woosh, Ezee and Kudos bikes. I'm sure you'll find something of a similar spec with throttle too. One other thing - do try and test ride first, even if it's a go on someones bike who lives nearby. There are several examples on here where people didn't test ride and regretted their choice

Maybe that's why Raleigh struggle - because they no longer give people what they want?

Getting a discount on a Chinese bike that's branded with the same badge as a fondly remembered name from the past and is still going to cost a load and still doesn't do what you want it to do is surely foolish?

The Raleigh name is used purely to attract people like you, come on don't let the marketing men con you!

Again for most people this is an expensive purchase, look around and find a product that does the job you want it too - you'll be pleasantly surprised.

All the Raleigh e-bikes come from the German Derby Cycles gmbh company who own the Raleigh gmbh brand, or the Dutch Accell group and neither are anything to do with Raleigh of Nottingham. They are produced by Europe primarily for the EU market.

UK Raleigh tried a couple of ways to introduce their own e-bikes but after they failed they took the easy route of buying in those European models, giving them the convenience of the same name badge.

So as others have said, brand loyalty isn't really a factor.

Just come back from a few days visit to Kent. Didn't find one bike near Maidstone to try or even check out
I will search a wider market and also keep in touch with this great forum
