Is a BUS bar a neat / simple way of tapping circuits off the main battery supply ? Have yet to find an answer for how to do this without soldering large wires to each other or trying to connect multiple wires to a single connector pin. There must be a tidy way of wiring up

I'm kind of fixating on this :)rolleyes:) and trying to visualize how in the absence of SLA-style ring terminals I'd take 4 separate circuits off one battery cleanly and safely without risking wiring failures at the battery connection without some form of connector block ....

If the controller is 30A would the connector block need to be rated for more than this (i.e. total amps of current which would run to all the circuits off the battery combined or just the highest current drawn by any one circuit at any one time) ?

The answer to the problem you will have when trying to wire the switch as 1+Rear, 1+2+Rear, 1+2+3+Rear is to add two diodes

May even be a decent idea to have 1+Rear on permanently as running lights which will make it even simpler'erer
Just remembered this ... The handlebar switch I bought has a rear light output built in, but I intend to use it for one of 3 front lights instead.

My current plan for its "setting 1" (which might need to be rethought, let me know !) is to simply run the relevant switch output to a 36V to 9V DC-DC converter input, then cut off the single connector from one of these (included with rear light below) and hook it up to the DC-DC output :

Magicshine Y-Splitter lead cable to fit LED bike light MJ-880 | eBay

The other end of the splitter cable will have 2 x female connectors (beyond to "Y") which couple to pre-installed male couplings on the following lights :

Cree XML XM-L T6 1600LM LED Bicycle Bike Front Torch Head Cycle Lights Headlight | eBay

Magic Shine MJ 818 rear light BRAND NEW with box ,splitter and O rings | eBay

So .... I presume I don't need to worry my head about diodes in this 2-lamp connection wired to switch setting 1 ?

The handlebar switch, I believe, has self-regulating functionality - by hooking the additional light to come on in setting 2 to the separate switch output it will not affect the lights in setting 1, which stay on when switch is slid to setting 2. Again, I am not planning any diodes with that arrangement at the moment.
