The front hub motor is probably a re-cased version of the Panasonic braking regenerative motor that Panasonic are running in a limited edition of 3000 in Japan. A version without regenerative braking was marketed in the Kalkhoff Agattu F earlier this year, as an alternative to the crank drive system.

N.B. After several "it's on/it's off" announcements, Panasonic took over Sanyo in the Spring this year.
