All seat posts on all bikes have a minimum insertion distance into the seat tube, if this is not adhered to then there is a risk of frame failure. The problem can also occur where the user has fitted a longer seat post to maintain the minimum insertion distance or the seat post diameter is incorrect I have seen it happen on conventional alloy framed cycles, although not on an electric.

Broken seatposts are not uncommon as Ian has said. You can get extra long and stronger ones if those are required, there's a huge range available in many different materials, alloys, steel, carbon fibre etc.

I don't think 50cycles would choose to dispute such a trifling thing as a seat post, it seems they've just pointed out the cause in this case.

Sorry Flecc. You have misdirected yourself, I think, due to terminology, and syntax.

Qote from Mygrumpy's post:

The "it" refers to the seat tube (frame)

Thanks Peter, I took it to be the common event of the seatpost.

If it's vertical crack, jubilee clips are wonderful things in twos or threes. :)
