shifter cable problem

Hi Folks,

After a rather fraught journey down to the supermarket and back where my gears kept crunching and jumping, I noticed the reason.. the shifter cable has just about come out of the shifter. (see photo below).

What is the best way to repair?

By the looks of it a new outer and inner cable. All good LBS would be able to do this or if you are handy, supply the parts.

It may have started through the inner binding in the outer cable as Harry says, or that might have been caused by the changer mechanism at the hub gear binding. Impossible to tell without seeing it at first hand, but as the gears were playing up just before I think the latter could have been the cause. Definitely take it to the bike shop for them to diagnose.
