Shimano haven't hung around since first announcing they were entering the e-bike component market. This could worry Suzhou with their Bafang motors:

i really look forward to it, I think however that will not affect Bafang and many others as such . It seem to me they already have a great reputation for reliability and i guess that will be for fraction of the price

The link mentions a "bracket motor" does this mean they are bringing out a crank motor to rival Panasonic & Yamaha?

The quote is "a bracketmotor among other options for motor placement" which implies they may try to compete with everybody. I hope they produce something really good, as it's the best way to drive development forward. Can't wait to see what they come up with :) .

Or perhaps more likely, an arrangement simlar to the Currie Electrodrive, bracketed at the side of the rear wheel as an add-on kit option. Since Shimano also make hubs that might make sense:
