Strange metal bracket showing behind motor... Trek Rail 5

Hi all

I have a Trek Rail 5 which has now done about 1100 miles. When cleaning it the other day, I noticed a weird metal arm above the motor (circled in the photo). Any of you ebime experts know what this is, and is it something to get fixed under warranty?
