Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and electric bikes and am seeking some advice!
I want to fit a Sunstar ibike S03+ kit on my cargo bike. I have a Dutch ID Filibus here's a picture of my bike Dutch ID and have found this company who sell these kits at what appear a very good price Sunstar ibike S03+ "black line" | SoLeon
Can anyone tell me if this is all i will need for my bike as its about a third of the price of a kit brought here in the UK.
Look forward to all your good advice

Japanese and their usual high quality, the SO3 kit is more powerful than the previous SO1 and SO2. They are quite refined in the manner of the Panasonic and Bosch units, rather than the usual rather crude crank drive add-ons like the Cyclone.

It does look really good but is it to cheap to be true? In the uk it's about £1300
but from this website it's under £500

Looks promising.......But a real shame about the noise! Would drive me nuts I'm afraid....

Lets keep fingers crossed for a Bosch kit. OEM euro price forvexistingvsystem apparently less the 600 so a kit could be competitive

OUCH! Thats just under £1300 with 15Ah battery.. TETS pretty good to deal with, have called and they are going to contact with test ride details. unfortunately it seems that a throttle not an option and the 15 Ah battery goes on a rear rack.
I look forward to your comments if you get a test ride. I've got a feeling that you won't like it at all. It's a nice concept, and the guy told me that he's workng on a 36v version, but at that price you can buy three GNG Gen 2s with 20 AH batteries, and I know which one I'd rather have.

Thanks Dave...whats the reliability like with GNG drive and can it have a throttle..noise levels?

I looked at these kits quite recently Eddie, thinking I might fit one to one of my MTBs. They certainly look very neat and tidy, unlike some of the other contraptions which are obscenely ugly, looking like something removed from an ancient washing machine.

The price is a bit on the high side once a bigger battery is specified but it's a decent alternative to the Bosch & Panasonic machines, evidently having enough torque to make hill-climbing pleasant. There's a bit of a downside with multi-geared MTBs like mine, having a triple-chainwheel but that's not insurmountable. I'd like to read some genuine customer reviews before lashing out double the price of a warranted budget ebike though. I might contact the Cambridge shop to see if they have one available to test-ride. With these crank-drives, there's no need to swap brake levers for circuit-breaking ones so it makes for a pretty straightforward fitting job and not having a throttle is no hardship for anyone with a decent, crank-drive system.

ps Last time I was in the Cambridge shop, they were big on the Boss kit, speaking very highly of its power. Strangely, it's both blatantly illegal as an ebike and hugely expensive so I'm surprised they actually market it.

Six hundred quid for the Bosch system even without the battery would be a best seller but will never happen as it would undermine the entire ebike business establishment in Europe.

The Sunstar kit is obscenely priced and the noise it makes is no less than the GNG Gen2 unit D8vey already mentioned. You could always get the Gen2 resprayed in matt black which would improve the appearance. Just takes a wee bit of work, risk and knowledge to save yourself a grand. Much better margins for the manufacturers if they sell bike plus kit than kit alone which is why we still havnt got a decent crank kit on the market at an honest price.

I can't really comment on the reliability brcause I've only done about 20 miles on it. I'm now using my CST as my main bike. The noise was about the same as the Sunstar, but I think it's quietening down as the miles go up. It has a standard controller with throttle, PAS, etc, but, like most controllers, it uses speed control, which doesn't really work on crank-drives because it's motor speed control. Current control would work better, so a Speedict or Cycle analyst might be a useful addition. With 36v, it's about as powerful as a good 36v hub-motor. It has nearly identical power characteristics to the 250w Bafang crank drive that I had 0n the bike before.
