Both my wife and I have "normal" Dahon Vitesse 20 inch wheel folding bicycles which we use extensively when touring with our caravan around the UK and abroad.

But the years are catching up with us... and we are looking for propulsion help!

I'm trying to track down a supplier/installer in the south West, south coast or Midlands regions who could install on each of our existing bikes a very simple electric assist setup, based on front wheel hub motor.

Simple, reliable, basic and lightweight is the name of the game here, no need for cliff-climbing power or 50mph top speed, or 2,789 function on-board macro computer.

Any suggestions for or links to specific installers would be very greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,

Bruce and Kathy.

This company with a shop in Bristol might be able to fit a Sparticle motor. You would need to check.

Woosh in Southend might be able to help.

Both companies advertise on this site.

Hi Bruce,

I have front wheel conversion kits but only for 100mm dropout.
Can you check the dropout of the front fork of your Dahon? If it's the narrow 83mm, I will have the narrow motor in the Autumn.
This is the torque sensor kit:
This is how it looks with the 13AH small frog battery:

Same but with rack:

You cab buy ready-made bikes as cheap as a kit, and you don't need to pay anyone to install the kit.

They have a whole load of similar bikes on Idealworld.tv and QVC on the TV. They're on at least once a week. You can split the payments and they have a comprehensive returns process.

Many thanks for your advice.
The front wheels are I think the narrow ones... I've just looked and with the wheel clamped in place the distance between the inner faces of the fork where the wheel axle passes through is about 75mm, so they are I guess the "83mm dropout" width (?)

I'd be very interested to learn more of the prices and performance/likely range specs of the conversion kit for this width of front wheel when you have them.
