I used to like this subject for weird spots of ebikes taking over the world each summer. London's fertile ground so here goes for recent spots:

1. last night in Bow Street a Puch with young lady rider
2. recent evening brompton nano/small hub bloomsbury big lad
3. every day 2 Kalkhoff PCs on Lower Thames St
4. A2B on London Bridge last week- not pedalling!
5. Velosolex lookalike import on london bridge a little while back
6. Powabike regularly on Southampton Row
7. Ezee Torq (bit tired) chained to railings Tavistock Square often
8. Weird folder in my firmsbike shed- must trace owner:D
9. Panasonic (obscured name) step through regular in Aldwych
10. Wisper Sport broken down being pushed- Swiss Cottage this week

3 Kalkhoffs and 1 Powabyke last week in Bath. A Pro Connect passed me on the way to work.. Clearly more oomph than the Agattu but so what.. I still beat my wife in her car to work:eek:

Good to hear from you again Simon.

Don't they have the same power plant? If the PC has more oomph, is it not then illegal? Or is the Agattu below the allowed power?
There are slightly different settings for standard power level in these units according to an e-bike manufacturer's requirements, balancing range against performance. The Pro Connect has a slightly higher setting, but the difference is very small. There are bigger differences in the high power mode which can be 1.3, 1.5 or 2 times standard power.

However, none of these is relative to the 250 watt limit specification since all units comply to that.

One reason for this apparent anomaly is that the power is always related to the rider input on these units, the ratios mentioned being in respect of the rider input to the torque sensor, standard power mode delivering a matching power to the rider input up to the motor limits.

The second reason is that the power is only supplied during the rider's pedal downthrusts into the torque sensor of course, so the power during those can be the peaks of motor input up to just over 400 watts while still not exceeding the overall 250 watts average. If you look at the graph of the Agattu motor output in working conditions while cycling you'll see the rough average is about 250 watts but using peaks to over 400 watts:

There ! I always thought my PCS was legal- that's why everyone ditches the mad licence plate holder they come with :D .

Back on thread and the local Wisper Sport is back zipping about- just a flat battery I guess.
