This may be in the wrong section but I'm not really sure where to place it.

As some of you will know I'll soon be the proud owner of a Woosh Santana and a Big Bear. The bike rack on my motorhome will be at its limit, but even with ordinary bikes every time I don't notice a French sleeping policeman the nasty bump makes it feel as though the bike rack is going to rip itself of the back wall of the campervan.

I am having a towbar fitted in two weeks so that I can use a Thule Europower 916 bike rack. This is designed for two heavy e-bikes and has a capacity of two x 30kg and of course being much lower it will be easier to load the bikes on it.

In my ignorance I'd always thought that these racks were bolted onto the towbar in place of the towball but as I'm sure all you clever folk know they clamp onto the tow bar.

How safe are they? In order to stop the rack slipping with two heavy bikes on it the force of the clamp on the towball must be terrific. How do these things work and does anyone have any experience of the Thule racks? It's not cheap but it seems to be a superb product.

I've got a Thule 929 euro classic carrier I got it from http://www.freeborn.co.uk/thule-929-euroclassic-g6-3-bike-towball-carrier

It takes 3 bikes up a total of 60kg. It clamps onto the towball and whilst I was wary at first, it carries the bikes well and sits solidly. You can adjust the torque of the clamp and you need to make sure it's sitting properly on the ball.

I can stick it on the car and put 3 bikes on it in less than 10 minutes. I've had the Santana Cd on it and that has a wide tubing as you'll know, it fits fine. Once the bikes are on, you can still open the car's tailgate, a foot pedal allows the rack to swing down, even when loaded. It locks onto the towball and the bikes can lick onto the rack.

It's the business I think.

It comes with a 13 pin plug. I had to buy a 13 to7 pin adaptor, also from freeborn. They were cheaper than Amazon when I bought it.

The best price I've found for the 916 is surprisingly, Halfords, which is handy for me. Will my towbar come with a seven pin plug and is the Thule a 13 pin? I gather that's what you're saying?

Don't know about the 916 plug, it will tell you in halfords site I guess.

The towbar will come with whatever you ask to be put on it. I chose 7 pin then I bought the rack which had 13 pins. ;)

I use the Euro power with two ebikes, no problem at all, absolutely rock solid, both bikes and rack. Tilts forward for access to boot if you have an upward opening hatch, not quite so clever if you have a door like on the CRV
