Powacycle Salisbury...Lithium Polymer battery, according to trip meter I have done 25.75 miles since last charge [one week ago] tempted to see how far it will actually go, but don't want to damage battery, any thoughts anyone ??.........Del.

I have charged my new volt metro for the first time a week a go. The manual advises to run the battery down to 20% for the first 6 charges then top up when needed, though I found on my last trip that the throttle does not receive enough power to work when the battery is that low.

Hello Del 80

I am not trying to incourage you into following me,but bravey i can say that i have experimented on this a few times,i mean riding the bike flat out(full throttle) until battery just totally dies on me.
After doing so, i find that the battery seems to hold more of a charge and more power after fully charging.
Del 80 for me this could be just mind over matter, but personally speaking i have seen on my trip meter the extra 2-3 miles.

Hope that this hasn't been rubbish information for you.

Mountainsport.

This thread has just reminded me to nip into the garage to see if my lifepo is charged yet.

Keep em topped up that's what I say, you never know when you might need to do an emergency 25 mile electric bike journey

Tempted to do the same Mountainsport, I suppose ideally a spare second battery would be handy, take bike to it's limit, change battery, then you would know for sure how far you could go, of course the extra cost of second battery rules this out.....well in my case anyway......Del.

Being a bit of a scemeing old begger, I'm trying to persuade SWMBO that she needs an ebike, for when the granddaughters want to do the Camel Trail etc.

The thinking being that there'd be a spare battery on her bike, in the garage, which would need exercising when I fancy a longish solo ride

A spare battery for my kit is 260.00 and a full conversion kit is 450.00, so economics would be on my side..... but, so far, she won't bite.

Fully discharging once to find the ultimate range will do no harm at all. As a general rule though, frequent part charges are best throughout the battery's life.

Thanks flecc, I suspected as much, I am quite pleased to be getting 25 miles + out of it, I know Powacycle quote slightly more, but then bike [and presumably battery] are not brand new, so not to bad at all........Del.

Jackhandy, Got to agree with that, us ''more mature'' chaps still got a few tricks up our sleeves......have given in to temptation this time......battery on charge as we speak.....Del.
