Tonaro at Cyclezee

Great news that Cyclezee is now selling the excellent Tonaro bikes at Milton Keynes. We need as many outlets as possible for ebikes if ever the great British public is going to cotton on to them. It's sad that Powabyke seems to have lost most of its distribution network,including Argos, which was very successful selling 35000 bikes.Every success to you.

That's great news, a Tonaro outlet more central than previously will suit many more and make them more available to try.

They will soon be available in the New Year on Tyneside too, courtesy of a liason between Phil at Powerpedals and my brother, Dennis Wardle, who lives in South Shields and is a keen e-biker. He is happy to transport the bikes via his motorhome to any interested parties wishing to try Tonaro bikes in the North East......so, watch this space

Just to clarify, Cyclezee will be agents for Tonaro courtesy of Powerpedals and help to promote the brand.
eZee will still be our core business. I see the two brands offering something affordable for all, eZee powerful hub motored bikes and conversion kits and in contrast the unique Tonaro range of crank drive bikes which is proving increasingly popular

Perhaps the route to bigger sales is via the cycle shop of which there is at least one in most towns. Powabyke certainly sold most of their 35000 this way. The bike shop in Chippenham where I live sold them, then Izip, now none at all. In nearby Calne you used to be able to buy Powabyke and Claude Butler , while in Devizes you could get Powabyke and Urban Mover, while Halfords of course used to sell the same. My only fairly local outlet is now the excellent CH White and Sons at Malmesbury who still sell Batribike and Kudos and their own conversions. Properly managed, every bike shop should be selling ebikes . Then at last Joe Bloggs might get the message!

My LBS in Ilminster sells some unknown make of e-bike...he used to sell Powabykes but apparently fell out with them.....he is the most unenthusiastic e-bike seller I have ever had the misfortune of meeting....I dont really know why he bothers at all as he says they are too difficult to fix when they go wrong !!

Next nearest, at 6 miles is Crewkerne LBS where they are selling the Raleigh Dover, which is a lovely bike and they seem a bit more clued up on them.
Then we have ReactionElectric at Taunton,10 miles away, who are very knowledgable and enthusiastic and last time I spoke to Jim the owner, they seemed to be doing well.

So I guess it doesnt matter how many outlets you have ......the main criteria has to be the knowledge and enthusiasm of the shop owners/staff......as you say, they have to be properly managed, a less than enthusiastic and knowledgable seller can end up doing more harm than good.

Maybe a cycle shop is not really the best place to sell electric bikes,a few seem to have tried selling them and given up,where as shops selling mostly ebikes seem to do ok,i think maybe if you ask about the electric bike in a cycle shop you would feel a little bit embarrased,i would feel far more at ease in a specialist shop full of electric bikes.

Spot-on Lynda!

Here in Swindon we have long established local bike shops who also offer electric bikes. But there is a huge difference between 'stocking' and 'selling'.

Fortunately, we now have a dedicated electric bike shop offering a huge range of machines from the excellent Juicy bikes all the way up to Swiss Flyers, Stork Raddars and Bionx kit powered folding Dahons. This type of shop will do more to promote the increasing use of electric bikes by all age groups than any of the likes of Halfords or supermarkets.

It's not just about floggin' somebody an electric bike and saying 'ta-ta then, thanks for your cash'. It's about providing good after-sales servicing and repairs to accidental damage which sometimes occurs.

It's about providing those who are returning to cycling with the knowledge they need of traffic-free routes where they can really enjoy their new mounts to the full ( that's where I get roped in ). ( and no, I do not have any business or financial interest in that shop )).

To keep on topic, Cyclezee has extensive knowledge of the enviable 'redways' of Milton Keynes. I'm quite sure he will share that knowledge with any of his customers, personally.

So where is the shop now and what is it called? I do hope it prospers. I agree dedicated ebike shops are best. It's just there are so few of them! Reaction Cycles in Taunton are great too,Lynda.
