... I don't know why Graeme feels the brand isn't getting a fair hearing, the owners are all praising it in here, some of those not owning them like myself have recommended inquirers consider them, others like yourself have expressed high interest levels and the very few outright comments against have been very obviously banter.

What else can they expect with such a thread title as "Tonaro, simply the best". Obviously it will be said that it isn't, and owners shouldn't be so sensitive about such a predictable response to a provocative title.
'Provocative' title?
I didn't read that into it, I just take it as a reference to a euphoric enthusiasts e-bike experience...not a call to engage the enemy.
It's very similar language used by dealers on their websites, 'we sell the BEST E-Bikes' etc (and some other forum enthusiasts) ...I don't see that as provocative, its just opinion based on their observations, experiences enthusiasm and business aims. I think we all understand that and decipher the message. So maybe we should cut the enthusiasts some slack.

I didn't say the Tonaro brand wasn't getting a fair hearing, in context, I said I wanted it to get a fair hearing, and one way it will continue to get a fair hearing is for enthusiast like Brian to continue posting, sorry if that wasn't clear. I like to hear from the logical technical people with their carefully calculated posts, I find that VERY helpful, AND I like to hear from people who may or may not have technical knowledge, but just love their bike, whatever the brand. Some have the ability to present facts and offer corrections, but lets not burst bubbles. Just to be clear, I'm not implying that you flecc, 'burst bubbles', its a general comment.

Yes, it's an interesting design and a welcome addition to the flush of crank drives we have now, especially at it's price point. I don't know why Graeme feels the brand isn't getting a fair hearing, the owners are all praising it in here, some of those not owning them like myself have recommended inquirers consider them, others like yourself have expressed high interest levels and the very few outright comments against have been very obviously banter.

That goes with the territory, every new model gaining popularity throughout the life of the forum has always come in for some mickey taking, and the OTT praise by some Tonaro owners has been obviously tempting such a response. What else can they expect with such a thread title as "Tonaro, simply the best". Obviously it will be said that it isn't, and owners shouldn't be so sensitive about such a predictable response to a provocative title.
Can I just point out Flecc, that Brian, for instance, was certainly not being sensitive about the responses he got, he said himself that it was just banter and he apologised to eddieo if he had offended him, the reason he left was that he felt that anyone who came to his defence seemed to be attacked verbally too, see Eddieo's response to Oiseaux for example, and decided life was too short to get embroiled in exchanges like that when he has so many wonderful cycle routes to explore on his beloved bike.
I told him I thought we were all big enough to stand our own ground....its a public forum and these spats are common, but, anyway, he's left and thats a shame.

But of course it is provocative to the owners of other models, precisely because they feel just the same about their bikes. It's provocative in that it provokes them to make jokes or comment sarcastically about the Tonaros, based on greatly inflated vestiges of truth. Most jokes are after all based upon exaggeration.

That's always happened with new models gaining popularity as I've pointed out, but on this occasion an excess of sensitivity caused some to see the jokes and sarcasm as serious, leading to them responding in like manner. That it escalated from there is entirely predictable. The jokes and sarcasm should have been accepted with good grace in the first instance and shrugged off.

"The jokes and sarcasm should have been accepted with good grace in the first instance and shrugged off."

OTT Enthusiastic Titles likewise. :)

As for your comment
"Most jokes are after all based upon exaggeration."
That's is just WAY WAY OTT. :)

I dont think any of us are going to be offended over good natured banter about our favourite bikes......but I reiterate.....not personal name calling.....

I think a joke in response is acceptance in good grace, but I suspect you'll disagree.

Really? Joke subjects change over the decades, often for PC reasons, but the one common thread I've always noticed in most jokes has been the element of obvious exaggeration, a key element in stimulating the amused response.

I'd be very interested if you are able to refer me to any joke book where the majority of jokes are not based on, or inclusive of, exaggeration.

flecc, please! it was my feeble attempt at humour!
Read my comments again with that in mind, they may read differently... :)
Thanks Graeme, it hadn't dawned on me, but my "I suspect you'll disagree" in the last post was intended as a humorous tease!

Didn`t we lose the plot here that Tonaros are simply the best and the rest of you just ride pathetic heaps of junk like old geezers going down the bookies to put on your weekly bets.

But of course since we have seen that they are now making yellow Tonaros......can someone point me to the nearest William Hills????
