torq 2 also dead

After many frustrating hours spent changing a rim on a wisper 905e,only to end with the bike no longer working at all,imagine my horror when i switch on my torq 2 and find it is also dead,it is showing a red light on the battery meter,the controller shows very quick flashes,of seemingly random numbers of beetween 3 and 12 flashes.

Had a similar issue with mine recently. I have the luxury of two batteries and in deperation I swapped the fuses which solved the problem. Probably not the cause in your case, but might be worth a try? Listen to the battery, with mine I could hear it shorting.

The Torq has a weak spot in the wiring under the BB. There is a multiple connector there which in my experience can cause a lot of problems. The problem is that it is difficult to get at to check without going through layers of shrink wrap. On my bike I found the shrink wrap had failed to protect the connector from moisture - there were all sorts of problems. To be honest it is not a particularly good connector to use in that position. It would help if you could work out how many flashes there were and use Fleccs torq Talk site to try and trace the problem.

I have not had time to look further at wiring or any thing,but when switched on the red light is now blinking 12 times,does this point to certain controller failure or could a loose wire cause the same number of flashes,if its the controller i think i would look at ecrazyman and a 48v system.

Ps i do not think it would be water problems as i keep indoors and only use when the weather forecast is dry,i cannot remember it getting caught in even a shower recently.

Could well be the controller. I have never had 12 blinks, the usual problem is brake cut outs (2 or 3 blinks even if not connected) or throttle (4 or 5). These problems can sometimes be traced to the meter box and moisture ingress. But if you say the bike has never got wet then this is unlikely. Crud can also build up where the connector is under the BB - if there is no build up then this is unlikely to be the cause of the problem as well. So does look like a controller. Why don't you give Cyclepoint a ring and see how much a new one would be - you would have to do quite a bit of re-wiring to fit the ecrazyman controller and it would wipe out any value the bike has.

PS As it looks like you will have to replace the controller why don't you tackle the wiring under the BB. It might be worth cutting away all the shrink wrap and re-making the connector a view times with contact cleaner. I don't think you have much to lose at this stage.

The bike already has little value as the original battery is dead and has been replaced with a cheap lead acid pack,however i was supplied with four 12v lead acid batteries for the price of three,and as one is laying idle i am very tempted to try running at 48v and having a bit of fun at the same time.

12 flashes diagnostic is "faulty controller, replace", so it's odds on that's the problem, especially given the erratic behaviour beforehand.

Thanks flecc,do you have any thoughts on the 48v route,for fun off road use.

It won't work with an eZee controller Paul, since that cuts out at 44 volts plus or minus half a volt with a 7 flash signal for "over-volt". My own Torq 1's limit was 44.3 volts. It will be ok with a suitable controller though.
