Is it possible to dispense with the Torq battery meter ? Could I simplify the wiring losing the Pedelec- lighting and battery meter functions and retain the throttle only ? Has any body attempted this modification - and most importantly -is it fairly simple ?!!

Yes you can. The pedelec/throttle operation switch is open circuit for throttle only so that's not needed in circuit. The brake cutouts only cut the supply when connected, so those can be out of circuit as well.

Here's the standard wiring codes from the 6 way connector at the controller end to the meter, and you'll see them in the meter:

Black and Yellow: Throttle/pedelec switch, join together for throttle operation. The black is ground and also goes to the meter board when it's in circuit.

White-Red-Blue-Green: All go to the meter board for battery level metering and brake cutouts, lighting etc. You should be able to leave all those open circuit.
