Hello everybody,

I am currently working on a hub mounted torque sensor project at my university.

Does anyone have any knowedge of the BionX method for measuring torque?

I understand that they have strain guages mounted on the rear axle?

does anyone have any other ideas for where to place a strain gauge / torque sensor?

I was thinking of putting it in between the freehub and hub.

thanks

I don't know the BionX method, but torque sensors were once commonly integrated in hub motors in Chinese desingns but were sometimes a source of trouble, then turning the normally completely reliable motor into an unreliable item.

In consequence many designs now have an external sensor elsewhere such as the bottom bracket area, while others dispense with them altogether. Those usually adopt either a supplementary twistgrip throttle or a low power motor, both avoiding the need to sense pedal effort.
