TSDZ2B vs TSDZ8 for Road Bike – 10% Climbs

Hi all,

I'm planning a mid-drive conversion for my girlfriend's road bike so she can ride climbs with me—up to 10% gradients, with total elevation gain around 1000m per ride.

Looking at TSDZ2B vs TSDZ8, but I want to keep continuous power at ~200W from the motor, with 80W from her ( Because I can't really go much faster ). She’ll pedal actively, and she wants torque-sensing over cadence-based assist.
In an ideal world, the lower the weight the better it is.

Anyone have experience with these motors on long, steep climbs at power?

  • Is the TSDZ2B enough with proper gearing and OSF?
  • Or is the TSDZ8 better despite the extra weight and power?

Thanks for any advice!

I would be inclined to go with the TSDZ8 although I think the TSDZ2 would cope. My sister uses it all the time for long steep climbs with no problems. I think it is a better engineered, better designed, better made and more resilient motor
