Just fitted a mid drive bafang motor easier than I thought it would be. I’m told by a guy who wanted £200 plus to fit it that it needs to be programmed via a computer to fine tune it I thought it would be fine just fitted and connected to battery switch on set the screen to wheel size etc and go
Or should it be tuned via a computer anyone know ?
Thanks

It depends where you get it from. There are a load of parameters that you can adjust. Sometimes they're set reasonably, so you can enjoy riding your bike without doing anything. Other times, they might be set to daft values, which makes your ride less enjoyable. If you're happy the way it is, leave it alone, otherwise do some research on what all the parameters do and buy the cable to adjust them.

£200 plus to fit a kit, glad you saw better and did it yourself.

As vfr has mentioned some tuning can be done but you won't know the settings until a cable is bought and the free software programme is downloaded to your PC.
Wholeale parameter changes can do more harm then damage so a mentioned see how the ride feels, though one can make a few changes to get more power usage.
The downside is do it wrong you will blow the controller eventually and range will be less. Gearing is vital to using these drives and labouring them will blow the controller, they are ok but in my hands I found them to be very unreliable.
Two blown controllers for about 3500 miles and two other mid drive types failed just due to poor reliability.

In that case I’ll just leave it as it is it’s easier to ride than without motor so it’s what I wanted. It will do 47mph on full throttle way faster than I need or want

Hi folks. ! Another stupid question. Or maybe it’s not. Would fitting extra magnets to rear wheel spikes make any difference to performance or is that a silly idea

The speed your wheel spins depends on gearing and is nothing to do with the motor or its power, and it has little bearing on what speed you'll get on the road.

I took it as his road speed  , hadn't given it a thought that it might be just a no load throttle speed.

if you fit a second spoke magnet, you'll be able to show your mates your bike going 90 mph, but why stop there? 4 spoke magnets will show 180 mph and 5 will crack 200 mph.
