Tyre pressures

I have Schwalbe City jets, 26x1.95 fitted. Simply because the side walls say 'Max Pressure 65 lb' I have always put 65lb into them.
However, this makes them feel as though you are almost riding on iron tyres. The smallest stones shoot out sideways with a ping.
Yesterday, I let them down to 40, I found the experience much nicer without any apparent drawbacks.
What do others think?

Probably fine Mike, if a touch low. Usually they have the minimum as well as the maximum marked on the walls, and they would probably have 45 to 65 lb markings if that was done.

If running on the soft side, watch out for kerbing or potholes, since those can damage the sidewall carcase by pinching against the rim edge when soft.

In that case their carcase weave is designed for low pressures and 40 lbs certainly won't cause problems.

The only difference apart from the comfort will be a trifle more roll resistance, but that won't matter on an e-bike.

And wallow handling, but since the tires are quite wide it shouldnt be a problem!

Just come back from a 13 mile ride. Fine at first then it rained. Rode over tarmac, grit, leaves, grass and sand.
All at 40lbs. Bike felt fine, no different to 60 lbs except it was smoother. Tested the rolling resistance down a long very slight incline, seemed the same.

I have the same tyres, run them at 50 which seems to provide the right balance between comfort and low resistance running.
