Warning on spam received to pedelecs email address - phishing attempt

Hi all

It's been mentioned here in the past that spam has been received as a result of being registered here (the spam doesn't come via the pedelecs server, but they must have obtained email addresses from here - maybe via profiles or something). I received an item claiming to be from Anonymous a couple of weeks ago, though thankfully that one wasn't criminal in intent, even if receiving spam is a pain.

However last night I received an item entitled "Santander Bank - A new security method" - which is almost certainly intended to steal security credentials from Santander customers. Usual warnings apply - if you see such an email, delete it on sight :)

Yes, that was sent to me too but it's widespread, as are all the attempts against other banks. Banks don't communicate by email in that fashion as they so often make clear, and I can never understand how anyone gets caught out by these transparent attempts.

Another one that had me intrigued enough to look it up was a request from gmail to 'authenticate' my account. Certainly well done, but fools forgot that mouseovers reveal the real address underneath.
It's been doing the rounds for a few months, according to a quick search.

It doesn't help that the guys who run this site appear not to let you sign up with a hotmail account.
That has always been my preferred choice for these types of forums.

Dont understand that as it works fine for gmail accounts and dont see why one is ok and not the other

Apparently Hotmail is the spammers favourite for planting adverts as posts etc, banning Hotmail probably overcoming most of that threat.
