D8VEH told me the same a minute ago :)

Will give that one a miss.

Looks like it's the 48v 500w I'll be going for with 201rpm. I need it for the hills really, so hopefully this will be a better choice.

I presume the difference between the 500 and the 1000w is just top end speed?

....Oh another thing, please could you share with the forum the advise / answers d8veh gave to you so others new to e-bikes with similar questions may also benefit, thanks!
I try not to post publicly on this forum any more for reasons stated before. I like to help people out especially when they're stuck or IMO being misdirected, so I still do some things from time to time, and I'm always lurking to see what's going on. I wish this forum could be more like Endless-sphere, which is mainly free from bias, commercial interest and prima-donnas, but it is what it is. If I said what I thought about what some people are writing here, I'd be immediately banned, so It's best to keep my thoughts and opinions private.

Most unlikely d8veh. I've seen some unbelievably outrageous behaviour in this forum in earlier years, but Russell Scott has always bent over backwards to avoid exclusion, rarely at most monitoring input via admin to intercept the obviously untrue. There have been times when I've considered him too lenient, but it's his to run.

I'd much prefer to see you openly posting, since at present you are in the position of seeing what you consider misleading from others while excluding anyone seeing if anything you say qualifies in that way. That removes a fundamental safeguard of internet forums.

I had lined up a reply earlier today but my darn Internet died.

D8veh, it's a shame you feel this way. I learnt a long time ago that you have to filter out the posters or posts that rile you and simply ignore them. You obviously enjoy helping others and you have a great deal of knowledge that others would benefit from greatly so I see no reason why you can't post openly to help others but keep your personal feelings off the forum. I suspect you will continue to take an easy route and not post which as I said is a shame.

To finish off this thread I have opted for the Bafang 36v 500W 201 running on 44.4v lipos.

Many thanks to D8veh and all the others for the advice, much appreciated.

BMSBattery seemed to be the best price @ just over £200 delivered.

Lipos from Hobbyking @ £190 delivered.

Cellpro PL8 + 1000w PSU @ £270 (going to use this for my RC Helis too) this will parallel charge 6 x 6s 5000mah lipos in half hour @ 1c :)

Indo enjoy the lipo rc batteries but time will tell if there useful after a years use. I can't see them last anywhere near as many life cycles as other ebike batteries. But the power is awesome.

It's the charger prices that are shocking. But if you can live with it they give you alot of flexibility

The chargers arent too expensive, like anything though it depends what you want.

Lipos imo are good for 1000 cycles if treated correctly. When used in RC 75 cycles is good, mainly due to the amps they pull.

Optipower lipos now come with a 6 month guarentee and are a true 30c pack (unlike the HK packs which claim to be that). Flightpower offer a 12 month guarentee too..

Very true in an ebike application you are really giving them an easy ride when it comes to discharge levels.
Which your right it should see a better total amount of life cycles.

A few RC batteries a while back on a forum were tested to distruction and pulled their rated amps up to 400 times before losing their 80% rated capacity. They only lasted another 458 cycles until they puffed and became dangerous.

Either way its cheaper than petrol.

I wouldn't say a charger at the cost of £200+ is cheap in an ebike application. Mainly because you could buy a complete battery and charger to last another 3 years.

But what your paying for is flexibility and total control over all the cells

The other option to charging is to use the Meanwell CC/CV power supplies. You will need to implement some sort of balance scheme after each charge or simply balance using the RC charger say every 5 or so charge cycles.

I use modded Meanwell's with my Lipo Pack and use a set of the HobbyKing Battery medics to balance out on each charge.

To repeat what others have said d8veh, and speaking as a trader, I would rather you kept on posting and spoke or wrote what was on your mind. There is always room for people to make sensible and constructive criticism.

I for one would like to know if what I do is right or wrong in the opinion of others.;)
