I have a Wisper 705 se just now but tried out a 706 Alpino last weekend at Lawntech in Dundee (thanks for pointing me in their direction dmcgoldrick:) ). I'm only 5'4" , the Alpino didn't feel too big atall (sorry, don't know wheel size), in fact I had to put the seat up, so no worries on that score. Strangely, my 1st comment to John at Lawntech was that the Alpino felt lighter than the 705se, maybe because I have panniers on mine but it certainly didn't feel too heavy.I only had it out for about 15 minutes so wasn't really able to put it through its paces but it was a nice smooth ride and the gear change was much better than the 705 and it did seem to be easier to peddle without power.Having said that I still think the 705 is a great bike, although the Alpino is definitely the much prettier younger sister!:)

I really love the retro look of the 706 alpino and the one thing which has always kept me from cycling preferring to run instead, is the leaning over the handlebars, I just don't like that feeling. I've just informed my husband I'm going to order the 706 alpino and he's just rolled his eyes  - how rude!

He knows better to argue!

Hopefully should have the bike within 7-10 days, very excited!

Just need to find out about insurance, not sure if our household policy will cover this purchase?

Hi.....re insurance I just had to itemise anything UNDER £1000 which my bike was, but, depending on insurer of course, you would probably have to pay more for a more expensive bike.....it might then be worthwhile looking at specific e-bike insurance ?
personally I have no experience of that but there IS a link on the right hand side of this page, so maybe see what they say ? :)

I've tried the 905 eco and a similar step through Giant, based on that experience and the lack of shops in my area to locate a 706 alpino, I'm prepared to take the risk.

how come there's such a long lead time? I got my 905 from e-bikes direct the next day (although it was in the crate rather than fully assembled like they apparently offer now), although looking on there just now I notice the "free next day delivery" is absent from the 706 entry though this might just be a coincidence.

Its called working full-time, away from home, I won't get chance to get to the shop for that period of time.

7 to 10 days not so bad, I ordered a car in January and it's not due until late April. Even that is in the air now since it's made in Japan, though that particular make is the one whose factories and offices are not directly affected, being 400 miles away from the badly affected region. There could be power supply problems though.

fair enough.. I'm lucky that I can work flexible hours and often from home so can wait for deliveries or have stuff delivered to work.

Round here there is (rather surprisingly) a great lack of e-bike dealers (nearest are in Cambridge other than one 20 miles away in Leiston which does a very limited range) so everything has to be obtained mail order and often self-assembled (not that its a problem for me as I have always worked on my own bikes)

I use ETA (the environmental transport agency, not the spanish terrorist group!) for my bike insurance, its not too pricey and has a recovery service (which I haven't thankfully had to use).

Thanks for the insurance recommendation, I'll check it out :D

Try your household policy first, may be a lot cheaper....

Best place to buy a Wisper

Hello, I was going to use a local bike shop, but wondered if any of you had a recommendation for buying a Wisper 706 alpino online?

I bought my wifes 705 SE from E bikes direct and found them very competitive and easy to deal with....
