am guessing - and I don't know, but here it is - that the driver who knocked over that cyclist near GlenCoe who had been at a public house where he and his brother had been with an estate shooting party was most likely well over the drink driving limit,
In sections its quite a tight road, couple that with the total lack of light. My experience up there is people, especially locals drive like they've the devil on their tail as they are very familiar with the road/route.
Several times especially going through Rannoch moor I've had to get off the bike because a vehicle has passed me what must be close to 80 or 90mph.
And you dont hear them either till they fly past, mostly with only feet off to your side. Scares the utter hell out of you.

A friend and myself used to camp in Glen Etive, probably 6 or 7 times a year so were used to traffic up there, and even in the dusk hours we've had locals blast past at really high speed and only with the side lights on.

The roads arent really policed, and locals come out the pub then drive home at speed because they know the road and way home intimately.
