I currently run a Cytronex Claude Butler Urban 500 and its great I love it and it works very well for me. I'm now sold on pedelec bikes and want to add a second bike to the stable.

I want to be able to ride some of the rougher lanes and a forest tracks in my area. Ideally I'd be looking at another Cytronex but nothing they make at the moment really fits the bill. At some point they are releasing kit but understandably its taking some time to get it just right.

So I'm looking for a MTB style bike(not a full on hardcore off roader) capable of some mild off road.

The Wisper 905 se sport seems to fit the bill and Wisper have a good name(if the posts on here are to believed). They also have a dealer in Edinburgh which is not far from me.

Would the 905 sport be up to the job?
Is there anything else around for that money that fits the bill?
If I bought a suitable MTB whats the best kit I could fit myself?

I would wait for the wisper dapush kit due in the spring I think? or the 350watt BionX, an import job and not cheap. Or an Ezee kit available now......

I love wisper bikes, particularly the 905 but its a bit heavy for what you want to do with it I think.

its been talked about informally for a while. Yesterday David of Wisper said probably 2 choices of battery, 7 amp and 10 amp, I would think 36 volt. the battery will fit forward of the seat post. I think the same front wheel dapush motor and controls as on the 906xc. they have been having problems with battery case design as initially it was supposed to be carbon but now probably alloy/plastic.

I am sure with smaller battery it will be popular with folders and an alternative to cytronex style sports bikes as well. I am thinking of fitting one myself to a decent Alfina geared bike, and hope to keep the weight under 20kg.

just having trouble identifying a bike........will need to know motor width first as well.

A good donor bike for either Stumpi or eddieo would be a Ridgeback nemesis.

Evans have them marked down from £600 to £500 (give or take the odd penny :))

Evans Cycles | Ridgeback Nemesis 2009 Hybrid Bike | Online Bike Shop

I bought one before christmas and it is amazing. I don't know the exact weight yet, but I can literally lift it with two fingers. Alfine gears are a dream, as are hydraulic discs. The slicks might not be to all tastes, but I like them.

I will be fitting a homebrew kit in due course, when I have finalised all components and started work I will be posting photos.

Regarding the forthcoming wisper dapush kit - having seen the rrp of the 906xc I wouldn't expect much change from a grand for the kit.

(I may be wildly off the mark though, If I'm doing a disservice to Wisper I apologise...)

Chris.

Please rule out the cytronex for rougher lanes etc. I wouldn't have thought the dapush would be up to much rough stuff really but only time will tell (and I would want to be the first). Would have thought the centrally mounted panasonic bikes would be best and it is a shame that the Kalkhoff Sahel range don't include any front suspension (and they are expensive).

It looks a nice bike and its black (Very important;) ) from what you are saying the equipment sounds decent.I think early ones had nexus now the Alfina is used? I may pop into evans and have a look. would you like to guesstimate the weight? or upend it on your scales?:p I would want a rack and and mudguards. The 10 amp Ezee kit is £900 so hoping it competes with that:eek:

I have a vague memory of someone in the lake district using a Wisper off road and raving about it. I can't be sure if it was this forum or some other. Couldn't find a link.

I wouldn't like to guess the weight; I will try to see if there are some scales at work tomorrow. I was a bit concerned when buying blind on the net that it might end up having a nexus hub, some places say alfine, some say inter-8 and some say nexus. It definitely has an alfine hub.

Hi Stumpi,

Our new MTB Gepida bike is a stunning bike to look at and just as good off road as a proper MTB, It also uses the new Yamaha crank driven motor and Lithium Iron battery. This bike is being launched in the UK early March, We do have a dealer network across the country that will be stocking this bike, and we are always looking out for new dealers if anyone is interested in becoming a Gepida retailer. We are also launching a very cool retro beach cruiser to, pictures to follow.

Dan you are by far the best at finding stuff! lol. So here is a test.....:D

Basically same as above but with front suspension (wide enough to take a dapush motor) hydraulic brakes would be nice as well as the Alfina hub. take as long as you want!:p as I cant find "the 0ne"

this is close, a specialised crosstrail

Just weighed the bike, it's a gnat's over 12kg. Add 2kg for a tongxin motor, 3kg for a battery & controller and 2kg for mudguards & rack and you end up with a sub-20kg electric bike.
