Wisper not charging

I have a 905, put it on charge last night as it was down to the red light, checked it this morning and the battery was in the same state ~ it had not charged.

What should I check first ?

My normal charging routine is every 25 miles/2 weeks.
The light on the charger was on.
The bike is dry stored.
The battery is never removed from the bike.

everything was swithched on? and plug from charger pushed in properly on battery?

I would check everything and give it another go.......

failing that probably the charger playing up?

May be a charger lock-up. Try disconnectimg everything including unplugging the charger from the mains, leave for 15 minutes and then try again.

Check the mini fuse in the battery, it unscrews from the side.

What battery is it?
Is it one of the older ones with the kettle plug or one of the newer ones?

Could simply be the 'old chestnut' of the connector, if it's one with the phono type rather than the newer XLR.

If it is, then look at the centre pin of the conector on the charger, you'll notice that it's actually a split pin, with a very fine blade gently tease the pin-halves apart very slightly (doesn't have to be by much). This will ensure a solid contact between the pin and the battery.

I've done some checking.

Fuze OK

No Load voltage is fine from the charger.

opening the end of the plug had no affect.

I notice when I switch the charger on the LED on it goes almost straight from orange to green and the charger fan does not come on.

The green light will come on if there's no connection to battery or battery is fully charged.
I recently had the same problem, all connections were good, fuses good, battery wouldn't charge through the charge connection but would through the battery output connection to controller[Key switch on]. This bypasses the BMS and I only did it momentarily to confirm battery cells were okay, this isolated the problem to being in the BMS circuit which I replaced.
Don't try unless you know what your doing.
Another thing you can check with a multi meter. Output connection voltage of battery[key switch on] If no voltage at all reason could be, broken connection between cells or a faulty cell, this is assuming all other connections, fuses and key switch are good.

Assuming all connections are good, that could be because the BMS won't allow a charge because it detects a fault in the cells but likewise the BMS could have developed a fault with the same result.
Check voltage at battery output with key switch on. If voltage is around battery's usual voltage chance is a BMS fault. If battery voltage is considerably lower than usual or 0volts, fault may be a cell gone down or connection broken between cells.

Check the voltage on the charger pins to check that the fault isn't in the charger.

Could it be the batterys internal fuse ? This can blow if the wires in the charger connector are exposed and touching .Well- it did on my Torq 1 !!!

Just to recap,
you've checked fuse with meter? visual check not always reliable.
Checked charger output voltage and found to be okay.
Charger light green? no connection or fully charged battery.
Assuming battery isn't fully charged already and there's no broken connection between charger and battery, the fault can only be within the battery case which leaves connection from fuse holder to BMS, BMS to battery pack, faulty BMS, connection between cells or a faulty cell.

Just a thought, you say you put it on charge the night before, did the red charge light come on then? If yes, could the battery be fully charged and the handlebar lights are giving the false readings?

The red light isn't lying. I took it out for a ride and it definitely felt to be almost fully discharged, just checked the battery voltage ~ it is 34.5v.

What is the next step ?

Okay, If a 36volt battery, voltage suggests cells and connections are all intact.
Battery charger output okay and fuse okay?
The fault must be inside the battery casing and failing a loose connection, I suspect the BMS to be at fault, which will need repair or replacement. If you do attempt opening the battery, check all wire's for loose connections. Inspect BMS circuit board for signs of cracks,overheating or damaged components. Failing any obvious signs, thats about as far as you can go without expert help.

Afraid it is out of warranty, I'll open the battery up at the weekend and have a look for anything out of order. ~ I assume it comes apart easily.

I think it is still best to talk to Norman, they like to keep their bikes running
