Woosh Big Bear Chainring.

Larger single chain-rings are not very common. If you get a double or triple, you can just leave the extra ones unused. I think your easiest option is a cassette rear wheel, which is by far the easiest option to fit. You don't have to change anything on the bike. You should be able to find a used one for about £15 with the cassette. It takes about one minute to fit without any special tools, in fact probably without any tools at all. You can keep your chain-guard as well. Your top gear will go from 14T to 11T, which will increase your comfortable top pedalling speed from 15 mph to 19 mph.

garyten and me have about the same cadence, we top out the Big Bear at 21mph while I can top out the Sirocco CD at 24mph because the CD has 11-32T 8-speed cassette. If garyten swaps the rear wheel for a cassette, he'd have 8-speed at the rear while his shifter has only 7. You see the problem.

Thank you both for all your info.

d8veh, thanks for those links, i assume the wheel will fit in the frame or would i need spacers or stretch the frame to accommodate the wheel and cassette, there must be some difference in the width?

As im not to ambitious yet, i really do like idea suggested by Trex "replacing the 14-34T 7-speed freewheel with 11-32T 7-speed DNP is the quickest (10 minutes top), simplest and cheapest"

Just for the record, my Big bear is fitted with a 14-28, not 34 as advertised, however i find the gears 1 and 2 almost redundant anyway, as i can easily take of in 3rd.

Wheels are 135mm whether they have a cassette or freewheel. Most cassette wheels have the quick release skewer rather than the nuts on your present one. That makes them even easier. Obviously, you have to get a skewer if the wheel doesn't come with them.

D8veh, again thank you, you have a wealth of information, i cannot thank you, and the other posters, enough.

I did wonder why the Big bear didn't have the quick release skewers, now i know.

Lots to think about now.

John's out of stock of those free-wheels, so you'd have to get one from Germany:

The grapevine is obviously working;)

Yes we are out of stock of DNP 7 speed freewheels right now, our primary reason for stocking them is to supply with our conversion kits and the last one went out on Friday with a kit.

The best place to buy a 'screw on' freewheel removal tool is here
http://www.tweekscycles.com/bike-accessories/cycle-tools/park-tool-fr1c-freewheel-remover-uniglide-shimano-sis

eZee will be introducing a rear motor with a cassette freewheel motor in the not too distant future so eventually we will phase out 'screw on' freewheels.
