  1. Thanks all, not looking too promising, was hoping there would be one in the centre as we'll be on the train. At the moment, seems it may be between the Powacycle Cambrisge or a Juicy bike classic, although a bit worried about the size of both. Thanks, Paul
  2. Hi, Going to Brum on Thurs, just wondered if anyone knew of any electric bike sellers in the centre (going by train) that we could go and have a look at/test ride some bikes. My wife is after a new bike, although she's only about 5'1" so could do with trying one or two.. Thanks, Paul
  3. Hi, Can anyone advise where I can buy the new Kenda tyres that David refers to. Just found a bulge appeared in my Wisper rear tyre side wall. Was a bit of a relief as feels like a buckled wheel to ride... Thanks, Paul
  4. Thanks Dave, will have to see how it goes with my sales, but may come back to you if you've not sold it by then. Thanks, Paul
  5. Hi Dave, I may well be in the market for a new bike in the next few days if I can sell my Powabykes - see below and now also on ebay.. Anyway, its for my wife and she's only 5' 1", so not sure if it would fit. Could you tell me how high the seat is off the floor with it at it lowest setting please? Thanks, Paul
  6. Hi, I'm selling mine and my wife's Powabykes. I have an X6 which is just over a year and a half old and an X6LS which is just over a year old, I would say the gents bike has done around 500 miles and the ladies around 250. However, the X6LS battery has died so I'm looking to sell as follows, the other battery is still in good condition, returning good mileage: One bike with battery - £350 One bike without battery - £200 Both bikes (one good battery) £500 Both bikes are in very good condition, only mark is a scuff on the casing of the good battery where it jumped off the bike.. This is an excellent opportunity to get a Powabyke 'X' in excellent condition enabling you to buy a new battery with full warranty. I'm nr Stamford in Rutland. Thanks, Paul
  7. Thanks all, I'd wondered about it being the retailers responsiblility rather than the manufacturer. One other slight complication is that the battery was just over a year old (a few days), but I'm fairly sure I remember reading somewhere that this can still be claimed under warranty if it is deemed not to be of reasonable quality. Anyway will have a talk to the shop this weekend and see how we go. Thanks again. Paul
  8. Just thought I'd post my bad experience with Powabyke here. A year or so ago I bought a Powabyke X6, I was really pleased with the bike and was immediately hooked on electric bikes. Unfortunatley the range wasn't enough for my commute to work though. So I ended up buying a Wisper. Sadly, I've never been able to sell my X6. Anyway before I changed to the Wisper I bought my wife a Powabyke X6 LS, again she was really pelased with it and we had some great outings together last summer. Unfortunately, the battery suddenly died about a month ago, so I contacted Powabyke who suggested I took it back to the retailer. I contacted the retailer who asked me to bring the battery in, a little frustrating as they are 30 miles away, but I took it back. I had received no response after about 3 weeks, so I rang the shop, they then asked me to bring the bike in. Another 60 mile round trip, but I duly did this. Anyway, tonight I received an email with the following attachment, no explanation just saying this is what has been received from Powabyke. I'll call the shop tomorrow, but does anyone know what this means? I'm assuming its to do with the sale of Powabyke, but it just feels so wrong that the company is so similar, still selling the same products, but not fully supporting them. I'm shocked at this, the service offerred by Frank was one of the main reasons I bought from Powabyke, but now find I'm stuck with one bike I can't sell and another with a dead battery. At least I can use my old battery on my wife's bike I suppose Paul
  9. Hi, I had exactly the same problem, Norman talked me through sorting it out, I just dissasembled it cleaned the bearings, greased them put it all back and tightened up and the problem was sorted. Heres a few pics.. I'm sure Norman will talk you through it, but if you need any help give me a shout. Paul
  10. After a long hard winter we finally had a good weekend! Having had an eventful route to my ebike (or ebikes..): - Oct 08 bought Powabyke X6 - Mar 09 bought 2nd hand Wisper 905SE - May 09 sold 2nd hand Wisper 905SE - Jun 09 bought New Wisper 905SE - Jul 09 bought Powabyke X6LS (for the wife) So we're a 3 bike family now, having failed to sell the original X6.. but at least have two Powabyke batteries.. So when we both get out we can take the other battery with us and she can swap and still not quite have the range of the Wisper.. Anyway, was getting a bit worried about keeping all of these batteries conditioned, so charged up the X6 battery and set off on Sunday. 10 miles later and a big smile on my face, was a really fantastic ride really felt like it hit back at the 'SAD' factor and have been daydreaming about as sat behind my desk all week. Just wanted to say what a great passtime/mode of transport/money pit this electric biking world is. Roll on the summer... Paul
  11. Sarge, Me and Mike normally form a double act here - I also have one for sale at same price, same sort of age, although mines the bigger frame. I guess it also depends where you live - I'm near p'boro. Bigbee - I'm selling as I bought a Wisper. 18 mile commute too much for X bike range. Paul
  12. Hi Cold... I've been having the same problem. Because I bought my 905SE from the other end of the Country (a lesson learnt) Norman at Wisper talked me through tightening the bottom bracket and eventually dissasembling the bottom bracket. I found a small shard of metal in with the bearings and when I reassembled it was fine, however I keep finding it comes loose now, I'm wondering if I haven't tightened up the locking rings enough. Regards, Paul
  13. Unfortunately, the winning bidder hasn't contacted me, so my X6 is still up for sale if anyone is interested.. Paul
  14. I'm selling my X6. Please see here
  15. Wormy - that looks good, I'll have to give it a try, can you compare your current trip to the split times? Winterdog - I got it from ebay, its an iphone specific one, there are lots of generic ones, but I was just a bit nervous about how safe they would be, last thing you want is one of these expensive toys escaping to the tarmac Phil - agreed, I resist iphone for ages was convinced by all the marketing hype, although have to admit it is fantatic.. Paul
  16. Managed to get a few trips to work in on my Wisper now and really enjoying it. Maybe slightly OT, but I'm using Motion X GPS for my iphone, works beautifully, even if I do look like inspector gadget with the iphone mounted to the handlebars (according to the wife ) Heres a link that the software gives you to a google maps version, I'm sure I'll be able to get it under an hour soon, although have to be a little careful on the narrow tracks and blind bends around Ferry Meadows. Still exploring routes though, seems to be dozens of variations to try, all within a mile or so of the total 17.6 miles. I also just wanted to mention the Wisper, I'm really pleased with it, certainly has the range, power, looks and speed that I hoped, only downside is that I've had quite a few 'teething' issues and because I bought it mail order it was difficult to get resolved by the shop. Much praise to David and Norman at Wisper though, they talked me through and sent out parts to get it sorted. Will post full review soon.. Paul
  17. Sarge, I found the X6 to be ample, only thing I would have liked would have been a 'higher' top gear as I found I got into sixth and stayed there quite a lot. I really liked the bike, it was just that the range was too short for my 18mile commute. I'll be selling mine shortly if you're interested.. Paul
  18. David, That sounds great, thanks.. Paul
  19. David, Many thanks, Norman has come back to me and will talk me through the pedal adjustment and supply a new throttle. Very quick response.. Thanks for the pump, any idea on the timescales? I'll hold off buying one if its imminent, but will pick one up if not. Paul
  20. Hi, I've just got my Wisper and only done one 'cycle' so far, but it was down to the red light at around 25-30 miles, however it seems to hang on for ages on just red, I was doing the 'deep cycle' as recommended so was waiting for low voltage cut out, in the end (around 36-37 miles) I gave up fearing damaging the battery and put it on charge. I'll check the charged voltage today, but it seems you may get another 10 miles from the first point of red light only. Although from what I've read you probably wouldn't want to do it too often due to shortening long term battery life. Fantastic bike to ride though isn't it Paul
  21. Mussels, thanks. I assume the crank is the arm that the pedal connects to? (Sorry for my ignorance) If so then it definitely isn't that I think its the spindle. I've been searching and it sounds identical to this http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/wisper-bikes-clinic/3838-clicks-judders.html?highlight=wisper+crank Problem I have is that I bought it from Southampton (I'm near Peterborough). Having had a poor experience from my local supplier previously (no names mentioned ) Anyway, I think I'll email Norman and see what he says. Thanks, Paul
  22. Thanks for that, not sure if they are the wrong way round as I'm still going at 35 miles now and I still have a green and a red? I've put it on charge now as not too sure how long to keep going for, I assume there is a low voltage cut out if I went for too long? Thinking about it maybe it is the wrong way round and its just really good range.. Noticed another problem tonight, there was a bit of clicking from where the pedal crank goes through the frame (not sure of proper name for it :o ) there seems to be a bit of play in it as it will wobble a bit, not sure if it just needs tightening up? Thanks, Paul
  23. Managed to get out for a good ride today, I'm now up to around 27 miles, but I have a question about the handlebar power indicator. The green light has stayed on all the time, but the amber one has been going off for a while now, especially on hills. I assume the battery is getting quite low (meter on battery only shows 1 light ot of four) Does that sound right though, I'm surprised the green stays on? Thanks, Paul
  24. Thanks for the responses. Setting to low seems fine for the pedelc mode, hardly notice it, but just gives you a little help, the high setting seems a bit abrupt. Got the gears sorted, just a couple of turns on the cable adjuster and it selects perfectly now. I had found the saddle uncomfortable, but actually now I've got the tilt right I quite like the 'arm chair' design No news on the pump and cycle computer yet though. Have to say overall I'm really pleased with it, really nice and smooth, quiet motor which gives little resistance when not under power and I think it looks great. Looking forward to getting some miles in to see how the range goes - about 5 miles so far and still all green. Now just hoping for the great service that is raved about from the guys at wisper - hint hint David Paul
  25. I needed more range for my commute (round trip of 35miles), so have taken the plunge and bought a new wisper. As you may remember, I had bought a second hand one and had a lot of problems with the electrics, I eventually got it sorted, but it was only a 8ah battery, at over 3500 for 14ah, I decided to sell it and buy a new one. Anyway, only had a very quick ride on it as need to give it the full 12hrs charge, but I have a few questions: - Does it always function in pedelec mode? Is there a way of switching to pure power i.e. twist and go only? I thought I kept twisting the throttle by accident and then realised it was whenever I pedalled.. - It didn't come with a cycle computer, is that the case with the 2009 model? - No pump, although I saw the other thread, although not sure what final position is. - The gears didn't always select properly, I wonder if this is an adjustment issue I only went about 50 yards down the road and back as was worried about the first charge, so didn't get much chance to have a play with it, I will go back to Stuart at Electric Bike World where I bought it from who seems like a really nice guy, but just wondered if anyone else had experienced similar. My general impression of the bike is very good, seems to have nice quality components, looks great and the suspension was nice and soft. The big thing for me is the range though, for the trip to work. Thanks, Paul
