  1. +1 for the bbs01b. Finished building mine yesterday, wonderful experience. Notched 30km/h easily on flat, 25km/h on hills (I'm nearly as heavy as you) without breaking a sweat. Got my battery from Eclipse, excellent service.
  2. Woohoo... 30 miles on flat, easy! All done and it feels great! Thank you all!!! Btw, decided to drill 2 holes into the metal and plastic battery holder sections... Seemed easier than drilling holes for rivet nuts into frame!
  3. Hey guys, does anyone know if I can drill a hole into the down tube and how / what tool I need to thread it into a bottle cage type hole (so I can then use M5 bolts)? Unfortunately, my bike's existing bottle mount holes are too low / too near the bottom bracket. Thanks. Karl
  4. I ordered the 17.4ah from Eclipse on Friday, they organised delivery near immediately (as I ordered circa 3pm, it's likely to be actually shipped on Monday). Seems to be excellent service to me! Anyway, I considered the option of ordering from China (the BBS01B seller offered me this option), but I declined for that tax and handling fee matter (though I will be paying this for the motor, to be delivered this Wednesday... Its still a bargain when factoring in the DCP14 colour display I am to receive). The only concerns I have remaining are to do with a few previous complaints regarding the grease in the gears in previous versions of the bafang motor and whether my new BBS01B will need to be opened for extra apllication of Mobil grease 28 (as recommended by others)
  5. Thanks again for the wisdom.
  6. Yes, seller just confirmed as such... it's circa 11:30pm in China! So, 20-25amp discharge rate is ok for this 15A controller? http://eclipsebikes.com/product_info.php?products_id=144 Or should I just get better quality and go for 30Q version? http://eclipsebikes.com/product_info.php?products_id=102 Difference: 3.4ah... what's that in real terms... 5-6 miles over longevity? Muchas gracias...
  7. So, basically; the battery is ok with either amp'd versions 15A / 25A, but if I had the 25A motor, then I'm better off buying the better quality 30Q battery version (but will lose a few amp hours for my £££ )? I'll ask the seller and see what they have to say. It's due to the UK in five days... so excited!
  8. There is are more than one amp'd version of the 250w bbs01b? Guess I'll have to wait for the delivery before ordering the battery then. Cheers Nealh
  9. Will the continuous discharge current be ok for the BBS01B? it states 20-25Amps, but I'm sure i read somewhere, the BBS is 15-18A?.. or does this not matter?
  10. Ok, so according to you guys, I should buy a bigger capacity battery, so (I'm hoping the missus doesn't finds out I'll be whacking £300.00+ on it), it's between the following: http://eclipsebikes.com/product_info.php?products_id=110 (Whale sized) and; http://eclipsebikes.com/product_info.php?products_id=144 (Dolphin sized) Other than the slight price, size and weight difference, are there any other differences to me choosing either one?. FWIW, I did look at Whoosh and brightonEbikes.. Eclipse had the better website experience and probably best for value (save for the bling ring, which i'll be saving up for a later job, depending on the performance of the stock chainrings) Thanks for your valuable input, as always!
  11. Thanks for the clarification!
  12. Woo... was going to buy that same kit from the fleabay for £45, but now that d8veh has pointed the equivalent kit in halford, might as well get that one, which, from the outset looks more sturdy!
  13. I was only planning to ride to work (five steep hills, 12 mile journey each way) and down some canal tracks at the weekend... Might not need so much power, lest I desire to swim with the ducks and local wildlife. . However, if this is so enjoyable as everyone says it is for them, I might invest in full Susser and slog the BBSHD on it, the missus (and budget) permitted, obviously...
  14. That's quite encouraging from a 250w motor!
  15. Much obliged. Order the battery and brake sensor next week. So, if I set max speed on the display to 40km, will the bike actually push the rider (subject to the usual terrain, weight etc) to circa 40km before the motor cuts out, or do I have to buy a programming cable to get extra power / torque from the motors before that happens?
  16. Thanks for the knowledge! So... I noted two eclipse websites for that battery, .com seems more professional Vs .co.uk website. I've all but decided on: http://eclipsebikes.com/product_info.php?products_id=110 So I'll be ordering hydraulic brake sensors, to fit on my existing brake levers. Will you guys advise on the gear sensor too?
  17. Btw, is the Ah part of the battery just an indication of possible range / capacity; the higher the Ah, the higher the range?
  18. Thanks for the detailed explanation guys, I'll go checkout eclipse battery... I did Google search if insat and I don't think I can afford one. This is my first ebike. I'm glad so many knowledgeable people in here
  19. Ok... So if I just change the speed in the user settings, does the motor actually give me more speed (when I order or push throttle) or do I need to programme with the special cable to change power settings in order to give me more speed? Sorry, I'm sure this sounds dumb to most of you... Btw, what is the circa max speed this motor will actually go if I change via user settings or reprogramming? I'm 85kg, 5'10 Thanks.
  20. Thanks guys, I'll ask the seller about cells... I've read that Panasonic and Samsung batteries are best? Regarding taking advice... What advice do I need to take before reprogramming? I was just planning on changing max permitted (restricted by manufacturer @15mph?) speed ... Wasn't planning to change anything else... Thanks again
  21. Hi guys, I have been trawling through your forum for info on a kit I've just bought (and am still awaiting delivery from China). SO, it's a BBS01B, 250w mid drive motor. I am fairly up o date about how to remove crankarm, BB and to install etc, but I'm not techy, so would be grateful if you could help with the following: I have been watching a Hailong 36v 15.4ah battery on the fleabay ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/36V-15Ah-Hailong-36V-14-5Ah-li-ion-e-bike-battery-2A-charger-New-slim-style-/282353772603 )... is this battery suitable for the motor? I know the voltage on the motor is 36v... but not sure about ampage thing etc... The brake shifters in the box seems horridly big, I'm assuming I will have to buy some aftermarket brake sensors and mount these, or is it possible to take the shifters apart, grab the parts and install onto my Shimano's? Being such a weak motor, will I need to consider gear sensors too? As there is a thumb throttle, I assume I shouldn't mount this to be road-worthy? (Yes, I did buy the lower rated motor of 250w to attempt to 'look' road legal without needing to sand-paper the bottom plate, showing the wattage info) I am aware that the display can be reprogrammed... what speed would you think is maximum safe speed (not to burn out the battery too quickly) that I can reprogram when off road? (I am aware that as it is programmable, it technically may not be road legal). Thank you all for your attention and I look forward to your feedback! Karl
