Bbs01 12H error
Thanks for that. I’ve emailed the supplier to see where I stand with their 12 months guarantee.

Bbs01 12H error
Thanks for the reply Peter C. I have now discovered that I can alter the level of assist by turning on the display and quickly entering the desired level before the display flashes its error code. The motor seems to be working fine and if I press the level assist buttons + and - while on the move I can alter the assist level, the only problem being that as the display is busy flashing the error code I have to guess which level of assist I am running. I have swapped the display for another one but it too flashes the error code. So I am hoping that the controller isn’t finished but I am at a loss as to why I am getting the error code 12.

Bbs01 12H error
So yesterday I took my Bbs01 equipped bike around the Gwydir Mawr trail in Wales. 25km of steep uphill and even steeper downhill. Had a great time and the motor helped propel me and the bike uphill. This morning I went for a gentle ride along the north Wales coastal cycle path. The bike ran fine - in fact it felt more powerful than usual. After about 5km I noticed that the display was showing a 12H error message but the motor continued to offer a level of assist. I stopped for an ice cream and when I turned on the display it worked normally for a couple of seconds before showing the 12H error code again. The motor continued to offer a somewhat reduced and non alterable level of assist. I have removed the controller and there are no visible loose connections. When I turn the pedals manually with the bike on a work stand the motor kicks in with a high level of assist and when pedalling along the street the motor continues to work but I have no control over the level of assist as the display just shows the error code. I have disconnected the throttle but this hasn’t made any difference. Have I fried my controller or is there some other explanation?

Pedalling resistance
Thanks for the replies. I put the bikes on a stand and twirled the cranks without the chain, they spun fairly easily by hand. With the chain there was a noticeable increase in resistance so I cleaned and oiled the chain, cassette and derailleur. Took both bikes for a spin without their batteries and with a more positive attitude and they still exhibited some resistance but maybe not quite as much as before. Maybe as an ex mtber I just need to get used to pedalling with a 46t chainring!

Pedalling resistance
I have recently converted two mtbs using bbs01s and my wife and I are really enjoying riding them. So far we've covered 500 miles up and down hill with no problems (touch wood). However, both bikes are nearly impossible to pedal with the power turned off. There seems to be a large amount of resistance from the motors - a bit like pedalling an exercise bike. The bikes are mechanically sound, no sticking brakes, etc. We are both experienced cyclists coming from many years riding mtbs. Is this a characteristic of bafang mid drive motors or is something amiss? I'd hate to run out of battery power even a mile from home, the resistance is that bad! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Phil

BBS01b on my new 29er
Nice build! So changing wheel size has increased your top speed?

New build
Looks like a nice build! How is the battery held in place? Any problems with the clearance between battery and front tyre? Asking because I'm considering a similar build myself. Thanks

Next project 29er New donor bike found
I drilled an extra hole in my battery mount somit lined up with the bottle cage bolts. Then I stuck a cable tie on as well, I'm the nervous sort!

eMTB owners photo and ride thread.
Great, now I can look forward to even more people overtaking me on the long uphill section out of the car park! Think I'd better get that Bafang motor bought. Seriously, those bikes look sweet!

smaller person
My wife is 5'1" and we've just converted her cannondale jekyll full, suspension bike intoman e bike. She bought her bike over 10 years ago and it was £1400 then. She has a 14 and a half inch frame and a sixteen would be too big for her - as in stand over height. There wasn't enough room in the frame, or under it for the battery so it's mounted on a specially made rear rack, not ideal but it works. We converted this bike because we already had it. Otherwise it would have been buy a hardtail and use that. Good luck in your search.

Loose motor
Thanks for all the replies. I'm back from holiday now so will take all your advice.

Cannondale jekyll
Thought I'd post some photos of my wife's cannondale full suspension bike which we recently fitted with a bbs01. Said motor being the subject of my recent 'loose motor' thread. Thanks for all the advice on how to fix that problem. The battery wouldn't fit inside the frame so we had to adapt a rear rack to work with the full suspension system. Apologies for the poor light and the dirt - we're on holiday at the moment.

Loose motor
Hi, I've recently fitted a bafang bbs01 motor to my wife's cannondale full suspension bike. I'll post some pics when we get back from our holiday. Yesterday after returning from a 30 mile canal towpath ride I noticed that the motor was hanging loose from its mounting bracket. The two nuts holding the motor tight against the bottom bracket had come loose. I tightened the nuts with a pair of pipe pliers - the correct tools being at home - and zip tied the motor to the frame as an additional support. Today's ride showed no loosening of the motor. Is this a common problem? The manual says to torque the nuts to 50nm, should they be tighter than this? Any advice appreciated.

Bafang mid drive kit has arrived
I fitted my bafang last week and didn't fancy the idea of the two unused wires just hanging there waiting to collect water so I've taped them to the larger battery leads.

Hello from the Wirral
Thanks Nealh, I'll get some photos and put a post together.

Hello from the Wirral
Hi, I've been lurking on the forum for several months ever since friends of ours bought themselves 2 very nice and very expensive Scott electric bikes. Being careful with my money I decided to use the wisdom gathered from reading this forum to convert my wife's MTB into an electric bike. I finished the conversion today. Is there a particular part of the forum where I should post my build? Thanks, Phil
