Cube Cross Hybrid Pro 625 AllRoad
I did a 30 mile ride last night of road, track and a little off road. I found the tarmac sections to be equally as good as the Allroad , if anything the suspension made the state of uk roads much more tolerable. I've read and watched many reviews on the 140R but never have poor road manners been mentioned.. My want was more offroad capability, I did consider the 120 stereo allroad but I would have been buying a near identical bike to current with added suspension for nearly a £2k upgrade . I have a host of extras with the 140R. I'm confident I've made the right decision.

The end of this particular chapter for me , I've just received my new steed. 3 months of mixed use in Spain made me think a different approach of bike was needed once I'd conquered the hills and headed into the mountains. Although the allroad was more than capable the descents were starting to scare me as I was perched on instead of sat within the frame. The allroad is booked in this Friday for a service, my rebuilt wheel with new hub and spokes refitted along with a new chain and cassette. I've had 4200 mainly trouble free cycling , just the hub which decided to turn into a rattle at 2000 miles and one puncture at 3800. For sale next week. New steed is a Cube Stereo 140R ,medium frame - 625 tube - cx4 85 motor. I thought if I was going to buy new it had to be an upgrade. This comes with 4 pot brakes, 12 gears, remote dropper post, Kiox dispay. I've added the mudguards but will probably go small for the summer. Muckynutz front and Mudhugger long rear, RaceFace Chester green pedals.

Not a bad location to add another milestone. Also liking the new features (to me) on the Fitbit app.

Pretty much using it as usual. Higher gears + Eco and off on level stuff , Tour for slight inclines and then lower gears + Sport when on a steep climb with a press to Turbo when sport is not enough. Some of these hills must be close to 30°. I can’t see the downhill section when I reach the crest on a few. Fun but a bit hairy on the descents. I managed a 6 mile ride on 1 mile range the other day by monitoring my assistance usage , I do plan my routes around the range if getting low to get the most from the battery. Charges to full from bar seem to be taking longer so my next investment will be a quicker charger.

Finally after 20 months I’ve gotten to use my bike on the roads I purchased it for. On day 3 I conquered the hill that crucified me on my non-e which had prompted me to search out ebikes , which led me to my purchase. Some of these roads require turbo to climb which I doubt I’d used in 1% of total mileage to date. Still knackered by the crest but I’ve made it without pausing or pushing, I’m on the brakes doing 30mph descending to give an idea of the steepness. Absolutely loving it , 25-30 miles daily, everything performing as it should. I’m getting 2 hill rides and a 3rd less stressful level ride from a full charge , just over 80 miles with some forward planning which I think is great.

Good Reply. The trouble is getting parts! I have to say Bicycle Chain have been great and informative showing me options. They can't get a replacement upgraded hub until mid November , a replacement uprated wheel and hub was possible for October but it will need a different holder for either the brake or derailleur , I cant remember which. The forks I've ordered are £175 , the next available £475! I'm planning on some winter sun so the bike will get lots of use , I'm thinking to replace the hub with same for the trip and then upgrade when I return. Reading now how poor some of these components are I think I've done pretty well to get this far with them.

Just coming up to 3000 miles. The forks have been squeaking for some time so with the next service I've booked some rockshock air replacements, the rear freewheel is also on its way out, the shop have rebuilt it as best as possible temporarily as typically these are impossible to source at the moment so a new back wheel is my only option to sort the problem. Since the power update the motor is definitely louder but the shop says its normal from their feedback , I've not noticed any drop in range but I do spend more time in eco than previously. edit: Today I've managed to source a new hub through some internet searching on hub problems. It would seem the Shimano hub can be fragile but mainly due to QC. Finding the correct hub is a minefield but I lucked out that a rider with same Cube Allroad had the hub go and linked the part supplied through Aliexpress. 2 weeks shipping from Singapore which beats all lead times I've been given by dealers. Price with shipping £27.18 , quite a saving over a £145 replacement wheel.

1 week away from a year old and the Allroad is going as well as the day I bought it , now at 2200 miles. Recently had a service @ 2100 miles. According to the shop the chain and cassette are still in excellent condition, as I mainly ride roads with occasional light gravel track I was hoping this would be the case. With the service I had the software updated and now have the increased 85nm on Gen4 motor. I would say the extra torque is noticeable in ECO , I no longer have to press + TOUR after turning a corner to get back up to speed , there is enough extra grunt in ECO. I manged a hill on the Quantocks today in SPORT that a year ago I struggled to achieve in TURBO, I was out of breath but not panting like I remember. I would say anyone doubting the fitness benefits of ebikes needs buy and get out on one. I have a couple of friends that have purchased Bosch powered ebikes over lockdown, they are now converts. Another friend has ordered a Radpower Radrhino 5 so it will be interesting to ride that and see how a £1500 rear hub motored bike compares , it weighs in at 33kg which is a bit of a monster but good reviews online and youtube. I see they are regularly bought by hireshops in Europe. A big thumbs up to Bicycle Chain Bridgwater, knowledgeable staff and excellent service. A totally different experience to the service I received at a Bristol ebike shop. Sunday update: Managed a 22 mile ride this morning in ECO. This route is usually a combination of eco and tour. There’s definitely more assistance in eco than before the update. At the halfway point I was feeling it in my legs but kept on. The last 2 miles are shared path so always taken in eco and off mode as a cool down. The ride took me 13 minutes longer. 1.26 v 1.39. I left with an eco range of 17 miles , on return still showing 4. Slight range anxiety at the beginning but dismissed halfway. Here is my report:

1500 mile mark today. My purchase list is increasing as I’m out on the bike at least 4 times a week plus local errands. Winter jacket bought in the Aldi event : rainproof , light and very bright but cut a little short at the front if being picky , £15 so shouldn’t complain. After less success with clipless pedals and shoes I purchased yellow mtb dmr pedals and a pair of O’Neal pinned mtb shoes which combined give almighty grip.Shoes are wide fit and very comfortable, pedals are shoe width wide! Lastly I joined British cycling “ride” which gives 3rd party ins and legal assistance. Included with membership was a set of see.sense lights. As they say, great things come in small packages. The lights are controlled by a phone app, they have several light modes and brightness levels to choose. Light patterns have beeen designed with use of A.I and will flash more erratically when headlights are sensed . A two hour ride used 5% battery with them set to eco. They are Bluetooth linked so will also track mileage, it was very accurate. As a bonus they also detect movement so if your bike is locked up within 100m of your phone they will notify you almost immediately if they sense the bike is being moved, it works really well. They also have crash detection , not that I want to be the guineapig , it apparently sends a crash message and last coordinates to a nominated number.

Giro Tyrant
I have a 58 head and ordered the L as I found another giro helmet to be on the smaller side. Very good fit and ventilation, never been hot after a ride and can forget its on its so light. Only downside, if it can be called that , I have no2 clipped hair , the imprint of the cushion is embedded until after I’ve showered. Was a bit oh no what have I bought initially but I have put safety first, I’ve since seen other ebikers with similar head helmets. I still can’t fathom how some riders think a helmet perched on their heads is going to protect them in a fall or accident.

Looking for a Handlebar or top tube bag
I have one of these purchased from a well known marketplace. my Iphone11 fits inside with a case on it. I ordered the 6.1 inch screen size. My screen has a cover on it but I can still use the touchscreen through the plastic cover. It’s handy having a separate bag from the holder , very secure requiring a good tug to get it to part from the velcro. So another purchase this week to go with the allroad. Bought direct from the Giro website at what I think is a bargain price of £95 delivered. It was a toss up between this Giro Tyrant and the Giro Camden. As someone who’s used their forehead as a brake in the past I was after a helmet that would help more than a standard jobbie now that the roads are getting busy again. I was also after a helmet that was more biker style than cyclist. Prices are all over the place on the net so I was surprised to find Giro themselves were the best with p&p. Really comfortable and snug fit with the turn knob, I like the ear protection and with extra pads included will mean warm ears in the winter. It weighs 700g. Finished a 2 hour ride today in comfort and a cool head.

Check that your rear brake holder is in line correctly, mine was slightly out of true on a ride and I could hear the skimming of a pad against the disc grooves. It might not have been tightened enough. Invest in a torque wrench like this one for general maintenance so you don’t overtighten anything. I always have a mini tool kit in a frame bag. https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Topeak-Combo-Torq-Wrench-Set_61547.htm

Having never used a kryptonite lock I can’t comment on comparison. I can say that the pitbulls are weighty and solid. I haven’t yet found a suitable mounting point for the holder so I either put it in my backpack or place it around the top frame and frame bag which helps hold it tightly in place while riding.

eMTB mode gives the rider an automatic change of assistance between tour and sport so you are not manually changing through the modes while cycling. More handy for mountain bikers with constantly changing terrain and gradients. My allroad has a Purion display so modes : off-eco-tour-sport-turbo which I have to change manually. For me to have eMTB I'd have to purchase the Intuvia display that you have. I’d say with any expensive bike it’s a risk to leave it locked up out of your eye view for more than a few minutes. Yes these bikes get a lot of looks as more people are becoming aware due to their popularity. Even when mine is attached to the bike rack I have an extra lock around the bike frame to the racks fixed rail plus a couple of speedy straps after seeing videos online of bikes being pulled off racks while the car is stopped in traffic. (cities mainly) I purchased 2 OnGuard Pitbull locks with cable from tredz as they were on offer. I don’t really think any lock will be safe against 'professional' bike thieves but they are a good deterrent against the opportunist. If you are going to transport it or leave your bike locked up take the battery out. As they come with a serial number card for the keys you may have a better chance of getting the bike back should it disappear. https://www.leisureoutlet.com/locks-and-security/cycling-accessories/outdoor-pursuits/156356-onguard-pitball-shackle-cable-bike-lock-14mm?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2u7tj8qx6wIVDO7tCh1ylgumEAQYAyABEgIgcPD_BwE

Hi carlbiker, not sure about negative reviews apart from the 1 poster on here who seemed to expect the bike to do all the work for them, I think they bought and sold 3 in as many weeks. I had also planned to buy from the Halifax shop after speaking to them as I was in the vicinity just before lockdown but that weekend stumbled into a cube event, no shop local to me would match their prices. I was accidentally shown a screen in one shop with some of the wholesale prices so I know they could have matched, best I was offered was 5%. I’m amazed they are still offering discounts when demand has been outstripping supply, so well done. I'm nearly 6 months into ownership, it takes a few 100 miles to learn how to use the modes for the best efficiency and assistance. I’m managing inclines in tour which originally I had been using sport so I guess my fitness is also improving. I tend to switch between tour ,eco and off mode and I get around 90 miles between charges.Sport comes in handy against headwinds over 20mph making you a speed demon. I’ve had it showing 3 miles range and still coaxed it 10 miles home. Apart from the mishap when I fell off clipped in the bike itself hasn’t missed a beat. They are as sturdy as they look. Had mine serviced at 1000 miles , more for peace of mind as I doubt it was needed as I do regular checks of the brakes and bolts. I see you also got the power update to 85nm, I’ll be asking the shop to flash this at the next service.

So I’ve just taken a picture and it appears I’ve moved it to its correct position, mine was originally positioned to the right above the S. The speed reading has been out since i first checked against gps. I’ve read elsewhere it’s common as to compensate for different tyres and air pressures , but over 10% seems too much and surely if they fit “smart sam” to this model then calibrate accordingly. I have increased tyres to 2.6 bar from 2.4 but it made no difference. I was going to ask at service time for them to recalibrate as it will be reading approx 1000miles for every 850 ridden. I’m doubting the reasons given about tyres. On the fall it was mainly cosmetics to the derailleur, it was out of line when I started again so I‘ve gently pulled at the derailleur and hanger to line it up. I’ll get it all checked out when any of my local cube service shops reopen for servicing.

After a fall the other day and landing partly on the derailleur I have straightened the hanger and my gears now move much more smoothly , so the chunkiness on shifts must have been due to the hanger alignment! With tools to hand I also moved the spoke pin about 5mm further outwards and my assistance cut off point is now 17mph on the purion display , 15.5mph on my runkeeper gps. Did 18 miles this evening averaging 13.45mph in gale force winds , very happy at the end of the ride to still see 5 bars showing and a tour range left of 50 miles.

I’ve noticed a perceived drag above an indicated 16 but thats just the assistance cutting out, a few seconds later its all forgotten. Never noticed on a downhill and I’ve hit some silly speeds....30 plus while braking. When I’m above 16 and prolonged I click down to off mode , the motor disengages and more natural pedalling. I did start out chunking the gears quite often , I‘ve learnt to pause for a spilt second to let it engage properly and then continue, can certainly feel the assistance kick back in. It definitely smooths out the changes and becomes second nature soon enough.

Suntour suspension seat posts with gel seat
I managed to get the correct post width for my cube after looking up the spec online and then measuring....Unfortunately I ordered a 400m post as I thought all for one and the cube mechanic who built my bike just cut the original post down to size. Gung-ho I decide when it arrived I’ll just do as cube did and cut the post down. All was going well until the last couple of mill to cut when bang-wallop-crash. Ffs I hadn’t realised the post was spring loaded from the bottom of the stem and I’d cut right through a plastic spring guide , I had presumed the carrier at the top was the spring! One ruined post , pissed off owner and another £65 for the correct post with 350mm stem. Definitely worth buying though , my bum certainly rides the bumps better now even on the original cube seat. I purchased both from ‘ cervusbike ‘ on the bay.

Cube Cross Hybrid Pro 625 AllRoad
I came from riding a fairly basic hybrid none-e 20 - 25 miles a day on roads. What are your fitness levels , are you a regular rider. I now ride fewer miles but over a mixed terrain so the allroad suits my needs. The nature hybrid 500 is more road focused with road tyres, it's lighter and handles canal paths and the like pretty well. I'm not sure if the tyres would take a battering on loose gravel but it's not reading that you intend to use an ebike for gravel tracks. I fully charged my battery before my first ride, I've since charged it 4 times and I've completed 431 miles. Fully charge it tonight , although I doubt this will have reduced the assistance. Maybe your motor has a problem , when I ride in off mode it's not a dead weight or there'd be no way I would be getting up to 18-20 mph on flat roads. . Go for a quick ride tomorrow without the battery in and see how you get on, at 4kg it's not light. This way you'll know if the bike itself is too heavy for your use. I'd also add that the smart sam tyres took about 150 miles to bed in Modes and gears that I use: Off , Eco and Tour: any gear. Sport : 6 and below. Turbo : 4 and below. You should also be watching the range if low and a distance from home , I have been caught once with 0 range but still had assistance when needed in eco for the 3 miles I had to go.
