Duke, a subjective review...
A very honest review. nice to read it. I had much the same experience as you when I had my situp & beg electric bike from another company. It took me much longer & more frustration to sort out the bikes niggles, as I had little or no knowledge of what to expect. e.g cheap break pads & tyres etc etc. Now I know, so I will always now expect to have to do a good few alterations & fixes before a new bike is how I want it. I did much the same as you cream schwalbe tyres, brooks saddle, ding dong bell, longer stem, new humpert handlebars + removed all branding stickers. Now its a dream to ride. I was very interested Kudos Duchess . I did a test ride at the NEC this year. I liked it but for it's size & how well equipped it is with lights, racks & pannier etc, however, I didn't like how quickly the motor kicked in when the pedals are touched. very sensitive!! Also I don't like the cream frame of the Duchess, & would much prefer it in Black or Burgundy anyway happy adventures your new bike

Brooks saddles.....
I bought a Brooks B68s aged saddle about 6 months ago, at first i hated it, because i kept slipping forward on it. I set it at a slight tilt backward for a good while. & treated it underneath & on top with neutral cheery blossom polish every few weeks. Now its broken in and moulded to my shape, I love it. try BROOKS | B17 | Standard saddle | leather brooks | Myspokes

Tailwind-less (Flat Battery after 5 miles)
Sorry you've had such a disappointing purchase. I noticed the last review of this bike on chain reaction cycles was on just a few weeks ago the reviewer states: "I bought this electric bike because i live in an area with really uphills and downhills (my age is 62 and a weight of 93 kgs). I have tested the range of the 5 amp battery and it is very different. Without any wind I can bike app. 12 km before the battery cuts off. If the wind is a little strong against I can only bike app 6 km before shutdown. Because off the short loading time I always bring the 220 V. loading kit with me, and for my use this is perfect. Generally the pedalassist is very good, I feel fine after 1 km upphill, and recommends this bike for a distance of 6-12 km." sounds like its a lovely push bike but very poor ebike especially for longer distances, hills & head winds. unless the charger unit it is light, its not really practical to take it about with you everywhere all the best with getting your money back & finding a better kit Donna

Woosh Bikes - Sirocco
I have not purchased from them, However, I noticed sometime ago there bikes seemed to have the same battery as my electric bike. I called & asked for a quote for a new battery, & was quoted an amazing £150 for a 10ah 36v battery. I think the company do bike hire in South End on Sea, so you could always take a trip & hire try one However, their ebay shop don't seem to have sold much in the last 6 months Donna

However it all sounded very positive & encouranging apart from the News Readers last comment Donna

Educating fellow cyclists - what do you reckon?
I think you were fairly brave to tackle the man. I do at times cross a junction on red. & a lot of the time I find this to be the safest time to go carefully. I think that as cyclists we suffer sufficient heckling and rage from drivers without the need to be on the receiving end from fellow cyclists. I too live in Birmingham. & 2 weeks ago I was out cycling in my local park, I decided not to wear my helmet The park is divided by the Pershore Road South. I dismounted my bike & pressed the pedestrian lights to cross to the other side of the park. The motorists happily stopped to allow me to cross then up road 'Lycra Man' on his razer blade on wheels, who decided to stop & give me a dressing down for not wearing a helmet. He held up the traffic for a good 15 seconds or more by doing this. I was totally lost for words & motorists were well annoyed. Educate via other means & not face to face on the road side

Cycle to work scheme?
I would contact your head office staffing department for your local education authority & ask there. Or check out your city councils website to see if there are any links to the cycle to work scheme there. that is if you work for a Local Education Authority School? Maybe your Bursar has not experienced such a request before & does not know what to do. best of luck

Step Through or Crossbar
hopefully if you do get a electric step though dutch style frame, it will not have rear coaster brakes. when I fitted an ebike kit to my dutch frame with rear coaster brakes, it became a little dangerous as when repositioning the pedals at a start off. as you cant back pedal, the bike would sometimes start with the pedal assist before you were positioned properly

Humpert Moon Cruiser Handlebars On Raleigh Dover
Cool! thank you. My bike same frame type as the Raleigh dover . It also has lots of adjustment on the stem & bars, but I just have quite got the right bars i curretnly have these on my none ebike: Controls They are extremly comfortable to ride with, but far too wide to accomodate the cables on my ebike. I take a look the the mooncruiser ones Regards Donna
-
Step Through or Crossbar
I have to step through frames: 1 tradtional dutch with rear coaster breaks, & one more modern step through. although I like both bikes they are both: poor at taking short corners, poor at hill climbing & not ideal for fixing on a car rack as no cross bar, & some of the down tubes can be a little too thick to fix a false cross bar the great things for me are: high riding position & comfort high visability, (being able to see over cars) I also get the impression that I am seen more easily by others as I am so upright & high up. (but this may just be my feeling!!) Donna

Humpert Moon Cruiser Handlebars On Raleigh Dover
I am thinking of swapping the handlebars on my current bike for something a little more relaxing layed back I recently purchased Humpert Dutch Cruiser handle bars for my none electric bike & they are fantastic & make a huge difference, However they are far too big & wide (70cm across) to accomodate the cabling on an ebike I noticed that the raleigh dover deluxe unisex, had humpert Moon Cruiser handlebars & I just wondered if anyone coulde advise & judge for bars comfort ect for upright style riding just wanting to get opinions and feedback before I buy Regards Donna

Early morning rides
I have found this week that I also like the chilly morning rides, Im getting to work feeling refreshed & ready to go in the slight heat on my return journey yesturday I felt sweaty after 4 miles of going up & down minor hills although I have 3 levels of pedal assist & thorttle Im I stilly only using level 1 to assit on some flats & 2 combined with a higher gear to give me a little more speed, or to climb hills Im finding that my local road are still very uneven with mini pot holes all about, so Im not too inclined to go use throttle here. Im not organised enough to get up and do an hours ride before work, however, Im looking forward to the clock change on the weekend so I can do some chilly early evening e-bike experience building
