I have been using a Satmap 10 with the whole of UK OS Landranger map card for well over 8 years now. At the time I was regularly cycling 50+ mile routes and wanted to keep the mobile phone for the potential emergency call - of course technology has moved on. Using the OS App I plan and then load routes onto the Satmap. It was quite expensive and has had a couple of services but I like it and am familiar with it. The downside is that the memory card is locked in time so if roads get moved it can be embarrassing however I have only been caught out once a few years ago riding from Melton Mowbray to Ely and a new road appeared in the middle of the Fens! Using the OS App should overcome this aspect - or highlight any route issues before setting off!

Halfer I suppose it all depends on what 'floats your boat' The bike has been purchased and the money long gone - I ride it for recreation and fitness - if it breaks I either pay or it is warranty - I have no interest in how things work, I just want them to work!. Whatever happens I cant see, for me, any point in knowing how much it has all cost, that would just be something else to stress over! All these things are personal and I am sure that others think differently.

I am not really into all the technical 'stuff', I just wanted to go riding, so all I can say is that what was on the bike when I purchased it works fine. The front forks are fixed carbon with no suspension and seem pretty effective at dealing with vibration, of course I am only road riding. My average speed is a consistent 12 - 13mph across all rides. I don't have any pictures but will take some on the next trip and post them - if I can work out how!

I posted after 1500km of riding and now a further 2000km and ten months later I can report that my initial findings hold good. I ride for leisure, only on roads and my trips are typically in the 30 - 50 mile range. The bike has continued to deliver everything that I wanted with the waist line gradually reducing! I have had a few broken spokes however with support from Martin at OnBike ((where bike was purchased from) and my local bike shop all was sorted and I now have stock available should there be more breakages. OnBike undertook a very thorough first service back in the spring and the bike continues to ride smoothly. This, on the face of it, is pretty boring as reports go however the bike has achieved all that I required when I first purchased it and I look forward to many more miles.

The answer is to try it but have your own version of International Rescue on standby! I use Thunderbird 8 - aka the good lady wife - who either shadows the ride (for example if we are going on holiday and I choose to cycle part of the trip) or just phone in if a problem. Or take your charger with you and find a pub / café to recharge if you need to!!

I use a Satmap 10 with their whole UK map card ( a recent and dramatic drop in price allowed me to upgrade from the Central England map card) It gives me all the data I require (average moving speed, time cycling , total time total ascents and allows routes to be pre-set). Probably does loads more but I have not needed to delve deeper. I have never checked it's absolute accuracy however actual distance to pre-set route is always pretty close.

As a late 50's asthmatic recreational road rider on my Neo Carbon I average 12 - 13 mph. I cycle around 50 miles each trip and whilst I have no doubt the bike is capable of much more I do like to 'smell the roses' on the way! These trips have on average total climbs c.2500'.

Having been ebiking for 5 years, my average ride distance is 20 - 45miles and I average 12 - 13mph - recently nearer the 13mph following upgrade to Neo Carbon. I like to smell the roses on the way!

BH EMOTION CARBON – FIRST 1500km REVIEW I have nearly completed 1500km of riding on my new Neo Carbon and thought it a good time to report my findings. By way of background I am just past my mid fifties, cast a decent shadow and suffer from viral asthma and have found bike riding good for my lungs – and waistline! As I live in North Warwickshire near some decent hills I was becoming frustrated that I could not get up any them on my old normally aspirated bike – cue electric bike. My first purchase was a Wisper 905SE Sport which I used for two years and upgraded to a Wisper 906 Alpino in January 2011. A wonderful bike on which I covered around 10,000km, my riding style evolving such that I left the motor switched off as much as possible – in fact the motor was only used for 2500km over those two years, mainly toward the top of hills! I wished to be able to ride more of a normal bike and yet have the benefit of the motor when lungs and legs gave out – so after much internet research the Neo range seemed to offer the best way forward as I reckoned I needed the lightest bike possible. . OnBike are my nearest agent, so last autumn a trip over there allowed me to try the Neo Cross – which was very good – however conversation with Martin turned towards the Neo Carbon – which came in at 19kg as opposed to my Alpino which on the road with panniers etc was 30kg. The decision was made to wait and see if the Neo Carbon demonstrator would turn up and out of the blue in January I received a call from Martin at OnBike to say that he had the 2013 range for a week. Anyway a trial was enough to convince me the Carbon was the ‘one’, so order placed! For the avoidance of doubt I have no links with OnBike other than being a very satisfied customer! As a result of nearly 40 years of hockey and dinghy sailing my back is not brilliant so I had the stem raised about 4 inches and also fitted Schwalbe Marathon Plus from new as I did not want a puncture miles from home (so far so good!). It is an expensive bike so to have to purchase mudguards was slightly disappointing – still an £8 set from Wiggle look just the job! Martin at OnBike was first class spending a whole morning with me making sure the bike was as I wanted, and has been keen to have updates on the bike’s performance. I have ridden from March to Blakeney, 65 miles and a number 60 mile circuits – all had total climbs of 2000’+ and I only used one / two segment on the battery monitor. I have achieved my objective and, due to the lightweight of the bike and 30 gears, am able to ride unassisted up many inclines that had to be assisted before. I have found from other sports that if you get the ‘right’ gear then you can perform better. To that end I have Gore gear (wind stopper for the winter) and it just works, I have no doubt whatsoever that the padded shorts are a ‘must’. Having had both carpel tunnels operated on some years ago I was concerned with the lack of suspension on the front forks and the potential impact on my wrists, however any fears have proved groundless. The bike is lovely to ride and very comfortable, Initially, for about 1000km I used the supplied saddle, but over time began to find it less and less comfortable ( much being asked of a small saddle I suspect!) and have swapped to an Avatar Gel which is super. On average I have increased my average speed from 12mph to 13mph. The torque sensor delivers the power in a different way to how the Wisper did, however I have now ‘acclimatised’ and am very happy with it. When I do use the motor it is 99% of the time in the ‘Eco’ setting which I find more than sufficient. Overall I am more than happy with the bike. The only real grumble is that subsequent to me buying, the distributers dropped the retail price by £300.00. Still, as my pal says, you can always tell the pioneers – they are the ones with the arrows in their backs!!

Hi I have the Emotion Neo Carbon and run on Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres - 1.75 I think. Purely a road rider - furthest journey so far is 65 miles with only bar used - BUT - the first 30 miles were across the Fens where no assist was used!! I use these as I like to ride 50+ miles each trip and don't want the hassle of a puncture. Hope this helps

I use the Satmap handle bar mounted device and have done so for over 4 years - pre 'app age'!! It was, and probably still is quite expensive, however it does the job that you are looking to get done. I prefer to use the Satmap so that I keep my phone battery intact in case I have to call 'International Rescue' (wife!!)

Not a special edition however because of it's price point I don't think they expect to sell many in the UK so it is not really advertised. It was only in discussion with Martin at OnBike that I found out it was possible to obtain one in the UK. I bought it because 'I'm worth it'!! (as they say!!) I have no link with OnBike other than being a customer and have found them very very helpful - to the extent that Martin spent pretty much half the Saturday I collected the bike getting the bike set up to fit me and add one or two 'bits'! There are some pretty reasonable hills around here to test the legs and lungs - I have devised a local 21 mile loop that has 2200'+ of climbs on it. Ideal for an early evening work out, then I ruin it all by going to the pub!!
