  1. The general rule used to be you can get away with 44.4v on a 36v controller. But you are using at the edge or max of design specs. Usually I found the controller to be weakest link. You will push motors, contollers and maybe batteries to their limits or beyond. I blew many bms, contollers and even a couple of motors by overvoltage These days I under spec . Meaning I have system that runs at 24a but I set it at 21a . My motor and Co troller have over done 10k in a few years by doing this. There is fun to be had by overvoltage but have time and/or money on your side would be by view. And just my experience and view of course
  2. Being a somewhat early adopter of all forms of electric personal transport, I bought a SLA powered scooter (chain driven and weighed about 48tons) when I was 20 and living on brick Lane just outside the City of London (I'm 45 now) I made it about 50 yards into the City on a Sunday morning. Literally now one anywhere. Pulled by cops within 2 minutes and given a warning. Push it home and never be seen again or we take it off you. I didnt have the knowledge on legalities I do now ! And I was basically a celebrity , no-one had seen anything like it before **edit - I should add it still lives ! My dad is 75 and lives mostly on boat in Greece, I converted it to a lithium pack with a bms that I built and he uses it to get around marinas **
  3. Ove seen these and similar but I do worry they can't handle th amps we need. I've never tested or used them though. I like me soldering iron! Maybe others do have experience?
  4. Tiny packs that can deliver the current needed will be expensive , especially at 1s over 2s (13cell vs 26cell). Nealh recently gave my some great info on cells on a thread . I'll try to link it
  5. May I ask how you have connected the power to a motor without a controller ? Are there simply two wires exiting the motor. I just googled harbin and it seems to be Chinese brand
  6. To the OP You can legally have a throttle as per whisper and woosh. You can also have one on a conversion as long as you stick to the other rules (250w, 15.5mph limit). This is not quite as 100% whitwr than white as the whisper /woosh solutions. However, althiugh the law might be said to be a little grey on the converions pkus throttle issue, i'd argue it really is only a little if the main laws are stuck to. There are threads on this if interested which involve grandfather rights and other matters
  7. Agree with that, can't see how much can be done. Though rise of deliverroo and others predated the scooters. In cities and towns there are rows of 1000w conversions with dual/triple batteries strapped to low quality bikes used by delivery guys. In London yesterday I saw two bikes in the heart of the City with petrol engine conversions that made a hellova racket. Went past a few police who took zero interest. I guess some regulation, occasional localised seizure of illegal machines and some very limited prosecution of the worst sellers by dvla is about the most that seems likely over the next few years. At least to me anyway
  8. Thanks Neal, off i go searching armed with your knowledge
  9. Thanks again Neal, one question for you is do you have any knowledge of the tesla 4800mah 21700 cell? I found a supplier for 19.2ah 36v packs using these cells at a reasonable price in the slimmer HL 1 casing
  10. Thanks Neal , I'd prefer not to have to build myself so ill have a look around for a prebuilt with those cells options and perhaps email.jimmy too. I don't need more than 15ah /17ah really. I run my bbs at 21a rather than 24a
  11. Very glad to hear from you but sorry to hear of your wife's family and gran. I wish you and her the best, it can be really tough at times. Twins are now 6 and eldest are 13 and 10 respectively. So we are coming out the other side ! I think I dropped out as they hit 18m/2
  12. Hey Neal ! Great to hear from you and the reply just goes to show how out of date I am! Never heard of most of that lot and the appearance of 21700 format in ebikes was for outlier homebuilds previously Though I wonder how they fit into hailong cases or are there new 21700 specific cases these days ? Top info, thank you sir K
  13. That's for clarifying! , apologies for my poor recall !
  14. Good afternoon I've been a long while off the forum for a number of reasons and find myself a little disconnected from the latest in battery tech and suppliers My 4 year old 36v pack made of LG mj1 cells is way past its best and nearing retirement. It used to be pretty much buy new from handful of suppliers such as BMS battery , Eflie bike in China or sometimes local.suppiers could help like woosh (though in back of my mind only if you bought your kit from them) and Brighton ebikes similar. Or of course the Jimmy recell option which I note is downsizing and selective on jobs from a other post. I have tried the searches but not seen much. Are there any new kids on the block? There is a mobility scooter.place that has a spot welder and some skills. They would weld a pack if I get the cells. So that is another kption though prob not cost effective. Any advice gratefully received
  15. Hi Neal and all ! Glad to see the forum is still frequented and a font of knowledge. My interest in ebikes absolutely remains and is my primary form of transport as well as leisure uses. However, the four kids ,new jobs and needs of ageing parents and in laws have left me needing 9 days in a week to keep up. I shuttered my side line in ebike repair and quit fettling for fun. In part the two ebikes I now have are exactly what I want and so I've felt no need to keep striving for more. One is the shift drive 700c afline 8 commuter /hybrid with a woosh front hub and the other is a titanium hardtail with high torque BBS and alfine gearing. Beyond upgrading to a rolhoff which I can't afford there really is nothing for me to upgrade other than consumables as they wear out. Anyhow, a big hello to all. I owe the knowledge I have pretty much entirely to the time and efforts of forum members Cheers
  16. I just fixed one of these, parts are easily available and repairable as vfr400
  17. How does one charge it when in deep outback where such a thing might be needed. What range amphibious? (measured in metres rather than km maybe?) Plus how to launch the thing. Never just the t water that's the issue, you need a launch site to* *though as autocorrect just would not let me type launch...... Apparently lunch is far more important to me. Damn you AI, you are right
  18. A solution to a problem no one has!
  19. [quote="Bobajob, post: 571640, member: 27829" Where will our government get the finances to refund our way out of this calamity? Our children, our children's children and probably beyond
  20. They are awful! The only issue with an arm is in the dark. Decent reflective material on arms or gloves is better than any indicator imho
  21. Wouldn't it just destroy Chainrings and sprocket teeth super fast!? Moving the failure to more expensive parts!
  22. Nice one VFR, if it isn't a full on thread hijack I'm wondering whether one of their controllers and lcd might be a good fit for the broken BESV PAS1 I have at the moment. It seems to have a BB torque sensor
  23. Thnaks vfr, I'll go hunting for a 250w controller and lcd that will fit
  24. Hi vfr, thanks. Deffo just the two,i checked that early on and plugged in different batteries too. Bike behaved same regardless. Sorry to bang on about this but how does the bike work without a pas sensor? Halls?
  25. Thanks vfr If Nealh is right and largely Bafang use higo then might an old Bafang LED on/off and pass unit do? Also any potential jumper option to bypass lcd and get pas 1? I'm worried about the lack of a pas sensor. Doesn't even seen to be any output from the controller So a standard ish controller and lcd might not function?
