1. You can do that - just be mindful of the chain line https://www.parktool.com/en-int/blog/repair-help/chainline-concepts When I setup I know that I am more likely to be at the bottom end of the rear sprocket so I look for my chain line to reflect that (aka space the front sprocket out from the frame). Just be careful that you don't end up spacing it too far...
2. Hey hey - something like https://www.e-bikeshop.co.uk/products/kmc-bosch-gen-3-44t-chainring-3mm-offset might fit.. Mine did hit the frame while mountain biking (bottoming out on a log roll) so I've switched it back for 'pure' MTB. Worked great as a commuter though!
3. Cheers Bearing Man - been out and about and no issues so far.
4. Paging Bearing Man for his view on the runout of the motor...
5. Hi all - managed to smack up my chain ring rather well on my Cube Acid at the weekend. Pre-pandemic I'd set it up perfectly for commuting and had replaced the 38T with a 46T which matched my leg power and just took me outside of the 15mph band, however over the last year I've been thrashing it around Epping Forest as I've not got to commute anymore.. Anyhoo - fast forward to the weekend and I was out with my daughters mountain bike club; we set up a nice series of logs to build a ramp up/down from a fallen tree for them to test some skills on. When it was my turn, despite having caught a bunch of kids who didn't get enough power down to get over the obstacle I did exactly the same thing - got most of the way up and then ran out of speed and dabbed my foot which slid the bike out and smacked the chainring onto the tree, bending it enough to cause the chain to come off with every rotation. Some trailside repairs with a weatherman bent it back into shape and got me back to the car, ego slightly bruised.. the only permanent damage is < 1mm of material taken off the shoulder of the chain stay where the oversize chainring rubbed - looks very superficial and is only in a smallish spot.. Have now pulled off the offending chain ring and re-attached the 38T that came with the bike and I might have bent the shaft slightly - there is about a 1-1.5mm run out on the chainring measured at the chain stay. Video is Two questions for the masses: 1 - Does the amount of material taken off weaken the chain stay too much to make it unusable ? I'd like to think not as it seems too small an amount of material to make a material difference given that the other 3 sides are complete. Its not like anything is going to stab its way through the weak area.... 2 - Is the runout on the motor going to cause issues further down the line (currently on about 1500Miles so could be due a service particularly given the beating its had). Again, I'm guessing that its within what I think a tolerance should be but thought I'd ask...
6. I'm looking at your bike https://www.specializedconceptstore.co.uk/product/11255/2018-women-s-diverge-e5-comp/ and it seems to be through-axle design so I think its going to be unlikely.. your options would be to get a clunker to pair with the Swytch and trailer and save your Specialized or to swytch (boom!) your forks for a normal steel / Ali setup that have u-shaped drop outs. For my money I'd be looking on FB Marketplace et al for a "lockdown, never used any more" bike as there seems to be quite a few popping up ;-)
7. Blimey Hixyhicks - glad to hear that you are ok (relatively speaking..)
8. Gonna throw this up there as I *think* that my Cube (Bosch) has a similar noise..Reparaturanweisung_Behebung_Knackgeraeusche_EN_final.pdf
9. Love the finish, bike looks ok but I'd be hard-pressed to justify £4k on a bike let alone some of the bikes he wants to emulate.... Interesting watch though and the follow-up video shows it being spanked a bit with no frame cracking..
10. Gahh!!!!!! I just ordered my daughter a new helmet as she took a spill on her bike while out mountain biking in the forest. Cheapest was Holland Bike Shop which worked out to be about £142 plus shipping... back of my mind was "thats under £150 so it will be fine.." Just been landed with a £45 tax and bloody vat bill to get it delivered. Guess that all the usual distributers (bikeshop.de etc) that I used to use will be the same....
11. Well done fella! If you keep it up then you will find that (due to a high starting weight) that your weight will drop like a proverbial stone... this will put less stress on the components and your knees ;-P Keep your legs spinning; a small amount of input from you will reduce the load on the motor and thus the amps (aka burn/melting potential) so attack them there hills! Posted as someone who is currently tipping the scales at just under 20stone but has been as high as 22stone....
12. https://www.instagram.com/jr_3ds1/?hl=en 3d printed fork holders... edit - https://www.jr3ds.co.uk/store sorry for the insta link ;-)
13. Quick google shows https://www.cyclesolutions.co.uk/rider-protection/helmets/specialized-visor-chamonix__15979?currency=GBP&chosenAttribute=60514-0180 No idea how good the store is so deffo not an endorsement!
14. Big fan of Fabric seats - https://fabric.cc/products/saddles/cell-elite-radius-155mm-saddle/ is what I have fitted and its dead comfy. Agree with sjpt that getting your bike position right is probably going to be the biggest (and cheapest) improvement you can make ;-)
