Longer Range out of the box
Well the longest section of the tour de france this year will be a pathetic 147.5 miles. I'd suspect that even if you can ignore speed limits and the weight issues or have some fictional iron man style mini reactor onboard then you would simply fall asleep and slump over the handlebars long before "cycling" at lets say a modest 40mph for 20hrs non stop to complete the ride... Average fitness adult who isn't a regular cyclist could do london-brighton(60miles) without assistance and then be exhausted, many people are doing that this weekend. With an extra bit of assistance from an average ebike they could probably do 75miles(london-dover) before they are just as exhausted, sort of depends on how they used the motor as a higher top speed will burn more battery power/rider energy(candle burns the brightest). Ideally tho most people would want to not be entirely burned out day after day and if they aren't used to cycling long distance they will probably not be eating/drinking enough so could do some damage with dehydration and things setting in on day 2. But 7-8x 50-60 miles a day with assistance, plenty of lunch stops and things can make for an enjoyable week and not riding so hard that they can get it really wrong. I have to be honest that I can't see why anyone who rarely even exersises would suddenly want to do a 400 mile ride, it has all them desirable aspects to it like saddle sores and cramps.

My new mini pump.
I have one of these, does a funky telescopic thing. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/airace-fit-tele-m-mini-mtb-pump/ http://www.simplythebike.co.uk/ekmps/shops/simplythebike/images/airace-fit-tele-m-pump-%5B2%5D-770-p.jpg

road bike frames for electric conversion
I wouldn't assume a bike is stronger as it has thicker tubes. Often it means the tubes are aluminum which isn't as strong, thinner tubes will be steel/cromo or titanium, anything overly curved is normally carbon fibre. It really depends on your intended uses. I wouldn't advise an ebike made from a road bike as it will only have clearances for slim tyres and with the extra weight of battery and motor it will just be a nightmare to keep it going, if you go with a small battery to offset how flimsy some road parts are then you won't get enough miles from the battery to justify carrying it. Also with many road bikes 15mph is really easy to reach so the motor will be off lots, on my single speed I ride 46/18(for most it will be top gear on the front and about half way on the back) and at 80 cadence with not much effort I'm going 17mph. I would be really careful too, lots of the ebikes with "that look" are marketed to say they can do huge jumps at crazy speeds and stuff like a motocross bike but when it comes down to it they aren't motocross bikes.

[Jul 12, 2014] Dunwich Dynamo - any others riding? (London)
I don't do many organised events but a friend has talked me into this one. It's cheap at £22 which helps and not as roadie as others. southwarkcyclists.org.uk/introducing-dunwich-dynamo/ I'm going to be riding single speed with the lfgss forum mob attending.

Bike Locks....
I would get a refund for the granit one, great idea and stuff but when tested it wasn't upto scratch. http://road.cc/content/review/16663-abus-bordo-granit-x-plus-link-lock I have 2 of these and a cable I sometimes loop around a wheel if I'm using just 1. Decathlon don't give a full model number but they are abus 401s. Small enough you won't get them with any sort of leverage type attacks so only vunerable to angle grinders and saws which if a thief is bringing them it's going to be little issue the time change between cutting this lock and a fagh kryptonite. http://www.decathlon.co.uk/mini-abus-u-lock-bike-lock-yellow-id_8203082.html

Abuse when wearing helmet cam
Like these? http://rosskempfolds.tumblr.com/ Also I decided to take the plunge and get a camera today(2 actually) noticed a cheap ebay listing for some MD80 cameras, went for 2 as I'm not sure the battery life will be enough with 1. Going to try for it mounted on my bag strap, if I can get into the habit of using it then I will upgrade, pointless spending more if when I do evenually need the footage it had a dead battery or I hadn't bothered switching it on.

Abuse when wearing helmet cam
Good to see you are still riding. I had a nice ride recently on my single speed, about 30-40 of us and weirdly we had nobody laugh at us or anything, also hardly anyone seemed to be driving between midnight and 3am. http://i.imgur.com/ENmIxeN.jpg And a little race some of us had. http://i.imgur.com/lsoU5OO.jpg Images are from others on the lfgss.

Be Careful Out there...
If I remember correctly you get the lovely sensation of peeling your trousers away from your knee if it isn't covered with a bandage... yay

Be Careful Out there...
Make the mistake of leaning into a corner a little too much and hit anything slippery/different while doing it.

Bike to work scheme sucks
It started out as a good idea but then companies got stuck into it and have been chipping away at the savings for employees to make savings/profits for the companies ever since, most now are pretty much just an interest free loan imo. Some are even worse, a friend was offered a cycle scheme that had the condition they would have it serviced each 6 months at certain shops, £80+ a year on servicing on a bike that was only going to be £200 new, all it seemed to do was setup a service agreement in exchange for £10-20 off NI.

Very Bright Very Cheap Light runs from battery
Check the bike magazines now and again, I remember when I went to the london bike show a couple of the magazines we walked away with had offers of a free pair of tyres if you spend £15 on a 6 month subscription.

building a 3/16 freewheel from a screw on 7 speed
Not exactly an ebike thing is for one of the other bikes. It started off a mountain bike and is slowly turning into an oversized bmx. Has anyone taken apart a shimano screw on thing? I have 2 that came off old bikes and plan to do the same as the guide but double up on sprockets so I can use a super fat 3/16 chain with a similar double up on the front chainring(s). http://forums.mtbr.com/singlespeed/homemade-ss-freewheels-step-step-photo-guide-373319.html

Punctures
I had a series of punctures on my rear tyre but it turned out to be the tyre was worn down so offering barely any protection, new tyres now and no issues again. They had been 700x25c slicks before someone asks how that situation sneaks up on you. I have a whole bunch of different patches in my kit so lezyne, weldtite reds, park, wiggle/lifeline, slightly different shapes and thicknesses so always something to use. I find with the glueless ones holding/kneading the patch slightly before you peel off the back and stick it on and then pressing it down and again kneading it when it's on makes for a good stick. Can't see any reason for the little tubes of glue and stuff now that we live in the future.

E-bikes and Eurotunnel
I found this, ebikes are classed as bikes in both england and france so I don't see an issue. http://www.eurotunnel.com/uk/FAQ/ I want to add bicycles / roof rack / roof box to my booking: It is possible to add cycles to your vehicle, as long as they are attached to the car and not on a separate trailer. The only thing that you need to check is that adding them does not take the height of your vehicle over 1.85 metres. The same height restrictions apply to vehicles carrying roof racks or roof boxes. If they do make your vehicle over the 1.85m limit and you have a low space booking, you need to amend the booking to high space. There are far fewer of those and you could have a long wait if you are booked incorrectly. Providing that the travel times do not need to be amended, it does not increase the fare. If you would like assistance please call us on 08443 35 35 35.

gold rated lock
I can't tell if it's sold secure gold or sold secure silver but you will more than likely need to fit a ground anchor too for a chain so I would try find a bundle. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Secure-Ground-Anchor-Chain-Motorcycles/dp/B002NTVUL4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1396192368&sr=8-3&keywords=approved+bike+chain#productDescription Aren't too many on the approved lists so to narrow it down for you it's pretty much the kryptonite new york ones, oxford monster/hardcore ones, abus granit and a couple of motorbike ones that are usually thatcham but not always sold secure approved. Here is the lists so maybe best to find a few locks and then see what you can/can't get. http://www.soldsecure.com/search-by-approval-category/ If you can do it with D locks then the cheapest gold rated is this, it's a rebranded oxford magnum. 2 of those and a sheffield bike/cycle stand/rack off ebay(the type most in the street are) and it could turn out cheaper and stronger than a chain. If you are fitting an anchor then surface mounted racks will take the same things to fix. http://www.clasohlson.com/uk/Asaklitt-Shackle-Lock/31-2166 + http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sheffield-cycle-stand-Galvanised-Surface-Mounted-/201061965454?pt=UK_SportGoods_CyclAcces_RL&hash=item2ed03a1e8e Also be careful when buying from ebay, it isn't common but some locks loose the sold secure mark or are moved down a grade and ebay sellers often forget to say this, reciepts for an as new lock from a retailer the insurer likes can also go a long way when/if you need to claim. Once you are all setup take a photo of how you lock your bike, if anything changes take another picture, if ever you need to claim show them the pictures and it should help prove you did your part.

got to see another ebike retailer at spin london
This has to be one of the weirdest places to see an ebike retailer with a stand. The whole place was ram packed with vintage hipster junk. I got a free ticket from someone so it was ok. http://spinldn.com/ I didn't stop at the stall for long as I was feeling sick from all the quirky original and vintage.
