AVE bankrupt

Featured Replies

A shock announcement that the German makers of the AVE e-bikes owned by some members are insolvent, due to the difficult trading conditions in the past year. A restart is hoped for:

Fuller information on this link

Such a shame. AVE bikes were competitively priced, perhaps it's part of the problem. The other part is the rise of Chinese made bikes advertised in ebay.de - most Chinese bikes are sold quite cheaply by internet marketing like the recent adverts for the Mosso, causing further erosion.

Perhaps also a bigger picture emerges that the German market has stopped growing and it's time for German e-bike brands to consolidate.

Pantherwerke who is supposed to have bought the brand does not make bikes in Germany. Will we see AVE bikes made in China in the future?

What does this mean for someone who had just bought a new 2014 Ave bike... would there still be warranty and support? (I was nearly just about to buy one..:)

Thanks for the heads up flecc, I will be keeping an eye out for an eddieO ebay bargain offer;)

Eddie has already had an email quoting the bankruptcy and looking to buy it at a rock bottom price!

No chance, Eddie says he's going to put the price up as it's now become a collectors piece! :)

Apparently the "buyer" was a leg-pull from CycleZee! :D

Has Eddie served his sentence yet?

Isn't it time he was allowed back to liven things up a bit, subject to a period of probation of course?

your warranty and support should come from the person you buy it from.

He is sort of back. Having been sentenced to Pedelecs Forum death, he's returned as a ghost to forever haunt the forum in threads such as this.

Except free ones, which most cyclists are to a degree.

IMHO that's still about £400 more than what it'll sell for.

Full price new £2K, available discounted at £1,700.

Eddie's is coming up two years old.

No doubt it's in good nick, but I can't see it at any more than £1,000.

Quite fancy one of these, actually.

Anyone had a go on one?

They are brilliant.....probably the only 20" wheeled bike i've ridden that feels (almost) as stable as "a proper bike"....Really like it with the older bosch HMI- just a shame the new models are so expensive for the sake of a few changes to spec...excluding new bosch motor additions of course.

Great hill climber, and surprisingly comfortable with saddle changed.

Probably not so good for people over 6'something though

Yeah, great bikes..............................for girls!

Martin,

Thanks for that.

I thought it might ride quite well.

My Brompton is great for carrying in the car, but not so clever on anything other than asphalt.

If I had an MH-7, the world would be my lobster.

Easy enough to take the bike in the car, and good to ride when I got there.

If you could get one for around £1000-£1200 in immaculate condition i'd say it was worth spending £500 on a battery....only downside is it would weigh more than the brompton at 20kg with the battery on (which is still light though).
