March 13, 201511 yr Given the cost of some new bikes ie Woosh & LEBC on here, does buying a kit still make sense ? Some kits are being advertised at virtually the same price as a brand new up to date bike. Grovelling about converting an old bike however loved ,with all the potential hassles and snags cannot make any sense when considering a Krieger or similar with proper back up if required. What do you think ?
March 13, 201511 yr The reason people use kits rather than a ready-made bike is not normally price. I started with a ready-made bike, but I still bought my first kit twovweeks later. It didn't syop me from completing about 2000 miles on that bike though.
March 13, 201511 yr it depends on what you want from your bike. If you don't have a long list of 'must have' features, then buying ready made is quick and painless.
March 13, 201511 yr Once you have bought a ready made ebike the next progression is to upgrade the spec with better components, so it is just as easy to add a kit to a high spec'd bike. The other side to it as well is some folk prefer conversions or upgrading as a past time and boys and their toys are not easily parted, no matter how many they may have.
March 13, 201511 yr talking about boys and toys, I do like nealh's idea of two bikes sharing one battery, saving about £300. With £1,100 budget, you can buy a Krieger and build a £200 rear wheel BPM kit, using the Krieger's battery on the BPM.

I have lots of bikes, and fewer batteries that I can share between them. Bikes on eBay are cheap (if you know what to look for, and how to fix them). I agree with others though, it doesn't make much financial sense building your own if you are starting from nothing.
March 14, 201511 yr You can always take the electrical stuff off a cheap bike and put it on something better. The stuff from my original Sunlova is s still going like that, now on a Landrover bike.

Hi,Dave, I have done this a couple of times now, only to convert adapted bikes for elderly riders with mobility and balance issues. Hoppers can be got for around £80 less than the equivalent kit and the remaining electrically stripped hopper fetches £60 for the local hospice.
