February 20, 20179 yr Author Good spacing. The haibike original sprocket has a tiny bevel to help with clearance. IMHO, 25t is too big, as equates to a standard 62t?. I think 20t max which equates to 50t. The biggest older mtb used to have 48t, hence why i stuck with 20t as close to this. Also, not sure you would have gearing to climbs with 25t. My 20t (original haibike sprocket) turned up today, along with the new bikespeedrs dongle (no limit assist / no cut out). I took some time fitting as ended up taking motor out of housing to fit. Just waiting new chain as current one now a bit to short. Did a very quick test run, but only up cul-de-sac, so far to short to comment. I just wanted to see if it works. My current dongle cuts out at 33 mph, but even with 18t sprocket and 11t cassette there was more to give. I think the 20t (biggest i want to go), with 11t cassette and new dongle will get me to around 40mph. My cadence average is 85. On the internet some people have got to 45mph. I'll test tomorrow and let you know. Thats if is survive Edited February 20, 20179 yr by Steve A
February 20, 20179 yr you might get it there but doubt you could avg that speed overall imo with this 25t just seems it accelerates faster through the gears. i also think the purion is well of speed wise to what it says on the screen even half speed it dont look right. i have 10t on the rear but seem to get a bit more assistants in the 2 b4 it but need to test it for longer with strava on me phone.
February 20, 20179 yr Author Agree, i just like the idea of being able to hit this speed if i want to for short periods. I usually ride at about 20mph, cadence 85 avg, eco mode. I have the garmin 820 and note the purion is recording 1mph more than the garmin all the time?. I sold Nyon, so can't comment on that one. The bikespeedrs dongle records correct speed etc, not half. I thought the baddass dongle was limitless, but clearly not?.
February 20, 20179 yr Author Soundwave, Just realise did you change to purion also?, what do you think of it.
February 20, 20179 yr last time it cut out was with a 19t and 36 mph but this can be out buy 4% why i messed about with the wheel size and pushed the magnet back as far as possible so it just registers it. the bad ass dongle is 50kph give ot take 4% thus why can get to 36mph or just under. tho it would really hiss me off going down hill with it cuting out as it is like slamming on the brakes. tho then again that would be a hospital class crash pmsl
February 20, 20179 yr it is way better than the old display and now hardly notice it at all back light wise tho there are screen tints you can get for it. my 500w batt is on charge so will try again with that as i get more woof from that than my 400w as that is over 2 years old now just need to see if i can get that ses wheel more in line with the spacers i have.
February 21, 20179 yr Author Well, just come back from a quick spin to try new dongle. I managed 36mph, but there's still a bit more to give so think 40mph is possible for a very very short period. Still waiting new chain, but not ideal conditions i.e. dark, wet and yes potholes (i'm not suicidal). I think the Bosch motor (built for torque) looses assist the faster you go despite the dongle seller stating it's not limited. Loads of assist up to 30mph, then the assist is still there, but less so and other factors play i.e. the motor and what it is capable of assist wise at speed and of course me!. I wasn't really up for a ride tonight. I'm sure a decent cyclist could have hit plus 40mph, as on the internet with the bikespeedrs. Post again when i give it another go, however 30mph plus is plenty anyway.
February 21, 20179 yr i can get 30 with the 18t but spinning the pedals like crazy so a 20t will help with that. and yes you hit a point where the motor does not cut out but then the speed you are going does not assist any more. the dongle is unlimited but the motor is limited to a certen speed and i guess you have found that now
February 21, 20179 yr Author Your right!. Still i'm happy that i can get well into the 30's which will blow most roadies away (i should know). Got to do more testing with 20t see if ok on climbs etc, and see if i can hit the 40mph. OMG it's like being back on STRAVA!!!!
February 21, 20179 yr Author Hey, all the ones above you must be on motorbikes, or you stopped for a coffee
February 21, 20179 yr Author I might have to reef havoc on strava, i know some people who live for KOM's.
February 21, 20179 yr the last one is my m8s strava but if i had no dongle id be left for dust tho he rides a road bike most days he was kaput after that ride tho lol.
February 21, 20179 yr Author Some people don't realise how good a road bike can be. I sold my old road bike, which when pushed could hit over 40mph on flat and with a lot of effort, but it was a 10k bike. Can't believe how much i've spent and wasted on bikes. Still my mates into building a Lamborgini kit car and he's already spend over 35k. Makes my hobby look cheap.
February 21, 20179 yr how many times did that fork go wrong the best place round here wont touch them with a barge poll.
February 21, 20179 yr Author Loads that why i sold bike. Also, front bearings wore out really quickly even with ceramic. Also, a 29er so not great in tech trails.
February 21, 20179 yr Author If that's a pic on you on bike then great photo by the way!.Got to go......
February 21, 20179 yr Author is this from the new marvel movie?, wish i was wearing it when i hit black ice a few weeks ago and cracked ribs.
February 21, 20179 yr i have broke my ribs my arm my ass cut my arms a legs to bits n just when my arm was better crashed again and had staples in my elbow and broke my ribs again tore off both palms of my hands smashed out some teeth twisted my ankle. and all i got was the bike ok pmsl. so you want some decent body armour you hit a tree up the forest at 30mph i promise you wont feel it till you wake up in a and e.
February 24, 20179 yr Author Well had another run tonight, not ideal as now have cough / cold, anyway managed 39mph. 40 still alludes me grrrrrrr. Clearly for me anything in the +30mph is not sustainable for long anyway, 28mph is and getting to near 40 is a peak sprint, followed by near heart attack
