April 5, 20179 yr Author None of you have ever cycled through the over flow from a septic tank, lane by a milking farm or lane where the sheep have been driven down? Or have my misses saying "how old are you". SW, that's about as useful as a G string on an Elephants bum. Mud guards are for men.
April 5, 20179 yr My nephew thinks the new wheels look sick! It means 'very nice' in laymans terms. I agree. Another trip to a trail centre soon I think? The wheels will handle some big drops!

April 5, 20179 yr None of you have ever cycled through the over flow from a septic tank, lane by a milking farm or lane where the sheep have been driven down? Or have my misses saying "how old are you". Sounds like a regular ride on the South Downs.
April 8, 20179 yr Author Finally, it has taken weeks. But I do now have two sets of rims and tyres for my bike. A set of road tyres on the old rims (Smart Sam Plus) and the new rims for off road ( Magic Mary on the front and a Hans Dampf on the rear ). They do easily swap over and the brakes are good, the magnetic sensors and the skewers both line up, the gears are the same and change perfectly. So now I can ride on the road in relative peace with the Smart Sams. The HD on the rear sounds like there is a car always behind you and the MM on the front makes such a roar that you do not need a bell to warn walkers. When you are off road I have great confidence in the MM and HD, you can steer out of the side of a muddy rut and push on up a rough muddy bridal path steering from one side to another looking for the best path without having to stop. Through necessity rather than choice the off road tyres are tubeless and the on road are tube tyres.
April 8, 20179 yr Author I have Marathon Plus MTB's, which are a good tyre but only 2.1 inch so a bit thin on the bike, also Big Ben's which are a better road tyre and a good width for a hard tail but thought I would try the SS's as they are wider and have some off road ability. My "road" tyres will still have to do a lot of off road, roads only get me to where I want to cycle, I am not that easy on my tyres It's not black and white for me.
April 9, 20179 yr So what do you think with 50% of the job done ? The Mary was a lot easier to get back on than when new, no fairy liquid but a big screw driver taped up. So it can be done, maybe the Kevlar ones loosen up after a bit. Had to roll the wheel and tube a bit to coax it to blow up with the foot pump but managed it easily enough without too much stress or mess. Went out for a ride to just check nothing fell off, ran the Mary with 40 psi in all seemed well. Still to reduce the pressure right down for proper TL riding. Next is the decision of what to put on the original rims ? To me your bike looks 50% lovely therefore hurry up and complete the remaining 50% then ask us your question again. Just to let you know I am not an half hearted person okay! MS.
