July 3, 20178 yr hi, At first I wasn't to sure what was going on here but then I discovered that giant made an road e and a road e+ in 2017 model. Price difference is a staggering £900 from the e to the e+ I have been offered a brand new e+ 2016 model for the same price as a 2017 e model. Now the guy claims that the difference is in the led display and that the 2017 has a walk assist feature. Do you guys have any thoughts? Both bikes are the same price and same colour. 2017 Road E COMPONENTS Handlebar Giant Contact Stem Giant Connect Seatpost Giant Connect Saddle Giant Contact Pedals N/A DRIVETRAIN Shifters Shimano Tiagra 20 Speed Frontderailleur Shimano Tiagra Rearderailleur Shimano Tiagra Brakes TRP Spyre Mechanical Disc Brakelevers Shimano Tiagra Cassette Shimano Tiagra 11 X 32 Chain KMC X10 Crankset FSA Custom 34/50 FRAME Sizes S, M, L Colors White / Red / Silver Frame ALUXX SL-Grade Aluminium Fork ALUXX SL-Grade Aluminium, Tapered Steerer, QR15 Shock N/A WHEELS Bottombracket N/A Rims Giant S-R2 Disc Hubs Giant Tracker Sport Road Spokes Sapim Leader Tires Giant P-R3 All Condition 700 X 32mm Extras Giant EnergyPak 4A Fast Charger 2016 Road E+ Frame: ALUXX SL-grade aluminium, 130mm SmartLink suspension system Rear Shock: SR Suntour Epixon LO-R custom tuned, 184x44 mm Fork: SR Suntour Aion 34 LO-R 140mm, tapered steerer, Lockout, 15QR Cranks: FSA forged crankset, 26/38T Pedals: Aluminium Platform Rear Derailleur: Shimano Deore XT shadow plus Shifters: Shimano Deore 10sp Cassette: Shimano HG50 11-36, 10-sp Chain: KMC X.10e Hubs: Giant P-Elite 15QR front Giant P-Elite 142x12QR rear Rims: Giant S-XC 27,5" Tyres: Schwalbe Nobby Nic, 27.5x2.25, Foldable Brakes: Shimano M447 180/200mm Disc Brake Levers: Shimano M506 Handlebar: Giant Connect TR 730x31,8mm Stem: Giant Connect Saddle: Giant Contact upright Seat Post: Giant Connect Motor: Giant SyncDrive C, Evolution line, 80Nm torque, Giant PedalPlus 4-sensor technology Controller: Giant RideControl LCD Display: Giant RideControl LCD Battery: EnergyPak 400Wh battery Which would you go for?
July 3, 20178 yr You are after speed and distance, so will need a bike with the bigger 500wh battery.
July 3, 20178 yr Author Thanks. My logic is the road bike has a lower weight and a lower rolling resistance than the mountain bikes so will require less power. Both of the giant bikes above have the same battery and motor I think... only difference is the ride control that I can see? Are there any other differences?
July 3, 20178 yr 2016 model has hydraulic disc brakes, no cables to stretch or break and will need no adjusting except for pad wear. Speed wise the road version may be marginally quicker but I doubt we will be talking much. The heavier bike will have a bit more momentum down hill also tyres can be changed so knobblies can be replaced with slicker tyres. Speed wise I have been able to toot along at 26/28mph on a 36v mtb with knobblies on road but not for 10 miles. Edited July 3, 20178 yr by Nealh
July 3, 20178 yr Your cut and paste spec list for the 2016 bike is for a mountain bike - suspension, 2.25" Nobby Nic tyres, Deore XT, which is a mountain bike groupset. So a bit more checking is needed, but full hydraulic discs are worth having.
July 3, 20178 yr Author Strange. Let's try again, 2016 road e+ I have booked a test ride over the weekend. Should be interesting! July 3, 20178 yr You need this one if it's been offered to you https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Giant-Road-E-1-2016-Electric-Bike_89779.htm
July 3, 20178 yr id try and get a bit more of it as all the parts wheels ect are bottom of the range a decent wheel set will be about 800 quid for a race bike
July 3, 20178 yr It's for commuting, £800 race wheels is the last thing he wants. decent racing wheels cost more than the bike pmsl less waight more range
July 4, 20178 yr Author Hmm all in all it isn't looking good. I am having a test ride over the weekend so will let you know. I'm kind of leaning towards converting my old carrera mtb and getting a cheapish road bike. Costs will probably be about the same and I get a tick in both boxes
