July 14, 20178 yr Hi all wondering if anyone has had any experience converting a folding mountain bike using a Bafang mid drive motor kit ,looking at building one to take touring around Cornwall any info/advise appreciated
July 14, 20178 yr There's several OEM ones. It shouldn't make any difference whether it folds or not as far as conversion goes, though you need to think about routing the wires to deal with the fold. Show us a photo of the donor.

July 16, 20178 yr You need to think about how/where to install the battery and which battery to use. Jimmy at BGA reworking made this one to fit a standard Topeak large bag. IIRC, Its 48v and 16 AH, so you can get plenty of 36v in there:

July 16, 20178 yr hello ade, have you got the folding mtb yet? if you haven't, take a look at the woosh zephyr. It may be cheaper to buy ready built than a conversion. http://wooshbikes.co.uk/?zephyr-2017

Is the battery on this bike removable?
July 16, 20178 yr yes, it's got a lock inside the fold. You have to fold the bike before you have access to the lock, making the battery virtually thief proof. The battery has 12AH capacity, good for 35 mile range. The on off switch, charger port and a USB port are easily accessible at the front. If you want to use your battery to extend the range, we can add an anderson connector for you to do that. http://wooshbikes.co.uk/2017/zephyr-b/zephyr-b3-800.jpg

So just to be clear by adding anderson connector i would be able to use an external battery? http://wooshbikes.co.uk/2017/zephyr-b/zephyr-b3-800.jpg yes, it's got a lock inside the fold. July 16, 20178 yr So just to be clear by adding anderson connector i would be able to use an external battery? in principle, yes. You still need to be responsible for matching the voltage of the in-frame battery and the external battery. That means that both should both fully charged before paralleled.
July 16, 20178 yr Author in principle, yes. You still need to be responsible for matching the voltage of the in-frame battery and the external battery. That means that both should both fully charged before paralleled. the easy solution would be to buy an additional battery with the bike so i could just swap over , do you have batteries additional batteries to buy?
July 16, 20178 yr do you have batteries additional batteries to buy? yes. 12AH, 1.5kgs, £299 including delivery.

July 17, 20178 yr I use this shoping panier: http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2861/9065065003_c127d437de.jpg for a more permanent rear rack panier, because it's a full-sus bike, the rear triangle moves with the road, the choice is limited to this Thule luggage rack: or seat post type: http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/Jr8AAOSwcBhWXulr/s-l1600.jpg

P.S. I'm hoping you'll manage to dispatch my bike today...
July 17, 20178 yr P.S. I'm hoping you'll manage to dispatch my bike today... I'll ask Hatti to give you a ring after Tuffnells have been.
July 17, 20178 yr Rather than convert one, why don't you get one already done. you can buy them on Ebay for less than the cost of a conversion kit. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=folding+mountain+bike&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR2.TRC1.A0.H0.Xfolding+electric+mountain+bike.TRS0&_nkw=folding+electric+mountain+bike&_sacat=0
July 18, 20178 yr There is even one with the frame in the battery! Crazy Chinese when will they stop innovating... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electric-Bike-250W-36V-Frame-in-Battery-Electric-Bicycle-26-Mountain-ebike
