April 1, 20188 yr Can anyone suggest a good helmet please? Im looking to buy a good quality helmet for commuting, but I want one more like a MTB helmet with protection down the back of the head, and sides. Im happy to buy a branded helmet although this might not necessarily mean its the best. Adjustable peak might be useful in low sun. So far I'm looking at the following.. POC Tectal £150 Seven M2 £100 Giro Chronicle £75 Scott Centric MIPS £92 Edited April 1, 20188 yr by The Bear
April 1, 20188 yr skid lid and splat hat in one tho a bit over 150 but also has mips http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/bell-super-3r-mips-helmet-2018/rp-prod154839
April 1, 20188 yr Specialized Ambush and lower cost comp Ambush. If you crash damage them replacements are discounted by 30%. Try a few different makes/models as head shapes vary.

It sounds like it could be fun, but I don't wan't to look like a prize twat wearing one of those helmets.
April 1, 20188 yr Author Can you buy the MIPS on its own? It sounds like it could be fun, but I don't wan't to look like a prize twat wearing one of those helmets. I think the MIPS is manufactured into the MIPS helmets? But its an interesting question as some brands make both a MIPS and a non MIPS version of the same helmet. I wonder if the MIPS part can be added at a later date to the non MIPS version?

April 2, 20188 yr Author https://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/category/helmets-and-protection/helmet-standard/product/review-giant-rail-mtb-helmet-49952/ And the Giant Rail helmet matches my bike colours too http://giant.cl/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/casco-giant-rail-negro-azul.png
April 2, 20188 yr Not sure about large vent holes on top, not all crashes involve flat surfaced. Very little protection if hitting edge of rock or end of branch.
April 4, 20188 yr https://www.bellhelmets.com/en_eu/cycling/collections/mips-equipped I have the mips super 3, best helmet I've had. Fits great and having the detachable chin guard is great.
April 9, 20188 yr Hi I use a 661 evo am lid , its really comfortable and its lasting well . https://45112113.r.bat.bing.com/?ld=d3MtddHKfTtIv6HdJWnkddGjVUCUxw2sOctJguGejW7UHM4sdbbsT-kaM0-8Mvs-PqruqeBLRe9pZq7g8gE9hemgBayvKvj_PQFMz8JLC4YzhbxfiOT4SHiYc8imZD2Q5rRm0IPdx5fRBC-sqNBqCms_X2QYkKbQxpLNPhFjOGy_wmsI-T&u=https%3a%2f%2fwww.tredz.co.uk%2f.SixSixOne-661-Evo-AM-Patrol-MTB-Helmet-2017_107730.htm%3fsku%3d399913%26mkwid%3dPc6ZYoY1_dc%7cpcrid%7c9773914521%7cproduct%7c399913%26utm_source%3dbing%26utm_medium%3dcpc%26utm_campaign%3d**SHOPPING%2b-%2bHelmets%26msclkid%3d%7bmsclkid%7d%26utm_source%3dbing%26utm_medium%3dcpc%26utm_campaign%3d**SHOPPING%2520-%2520Helmets%26utm_term%3d1101400116548%26utm_content%3dMTB%2520Helmets
April 17, 20188 yr I got the Bell Super 3R MIPS Helmet and I got mine for £129 from merlin cycles. Its a great bit of kit wouldn't want anything else now. You can wear it anywhere and the chin guard is easy to remove or put on for down hill Edited April 17, 20188 yr by Chris.
April 20, 20188 yr The OP got me thinking, new lid. Just had delivered a ‘bern watts’ Mips commute lid. Looks like a US baseball hat. I think it will complement the Volt, better than the shown lid that advertises the Volt!
April 21, 20188 yr Author Well I think I've narrowed down my choice to either the Giant Rail or the Giro Montaro which happens to come in a larger 65cm size for big headed folk like me. I think I'd like a bright coloured helmet to help make me visible on the road commute.. Giant Rail Giro Montaro

April 25, 20188 yr Author Well I’ve just bought myself the Giant Rail helmet. I cycle past a Giant shop each day on my commute so popped in today to try one on. As someone mentioned earlier I am perhaps a victim of fashion as it does match my Cube Race colours, but it’s a nice visible colour which is what I wanted. Edited April 25, 20188 yr by The Bear

Well it’s definitely visible and matches well As long as it comfortable I would say it’s win win win
